Contrary to what its name implies, Littleton is experiencing some of Colorado's largest growth. The population increased by 14.8 percent over the past decade, hitting 45,652 in 2020, the city's peak. The average home price is $457,300, trending upward. Along with land for sale, there are multiple developments underway, including Downtown Littleton, which is being revitalized to include more modern amenities. If you're looking for an older style house, downtown mainly consists of homes built between the 1950s and 1980s, like those found in Shadycroft Acres, an equestrian-friendly neighborhood with homes on one to two-acre lots. The Marston Lake neighborhood is another sought-after neighborhood, known for its namesake lake, the popular Southwest Plaza Mall, and award-winning subdivisions like Riverwalk, which offers condos and townhomes. The Club at Ravenna is a luxury golf course community boasting large single-family houses, stellar views of the mountains, and easy access to green spaces like Roxborough State Park.
Littleton is laden with trails, green spaces, and parks, attracting locals and visitors alike. The South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center have five lakes and over 880 acres of land for exploring, while Deer Creek Canyon Park near the Rocky Mountains is great for hiking and wildlife observations. Hudson Gardens features over 30 lush gardens including a rose garden. Littleton Public Schools, one of the best school districts in Colorado, has received the Colorado Department of Education's highest accreditation rating eight out of nine years, which is more than any other metro area district. Along with having several National Blue Ribbon Schools, Littleton Public Schools offers an International Baccalaureate program and other advanced coursework. The school district serves over 15,000 pupils. About 20 percent of students live outside of the district boundaries and open enroll. The school system has several preschools and alternative programs, two charter schools, 13 elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools. All three high schools - Littleton, Heritage, and Arapahoe- are nationally recognized, award-winning schools. The suburb also has 13 private schools. Arapahoe Community College is in Littleton, and the area is convenient to multiple schools and universities in Denver.
Commuting in Littleton
Littleton residents have a variety of options for commuting. Driving is the most popular mode of transportation, and the average commute is about 24 minutes, less than the national average. Commuters can use Route 85 and Highways 75 and 470 to travel north toward Boulder or south toward Denver. The city has bike lanes and trails for cyclists, along with several light rail stations and buses that travel into Denver via the Regional Transportation District. The city is also looking to bring e-scooters to the area. Denver International Airport is about 32 miles away.
