Spanish rancho history in the Conejo Valley

The suburban Agoura Hills neighborhood of Reyes Adobe hearkens back to the Conejo Valley's long history. Reyes Adobe is named after a Spanish rancho property, which is now a museum, next to a park and road with the same name. The City of Agoura Hills, a gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains, is in the scenic foothills of Ladyface Mountain. Ventura County's second-largest city, Thousand Oaks, is about 4 miles northwest of Reyes Adobe, and Downtown Los Angeles is about 36 miles to the east.

Single-family homes and townhomes in Reyes Adobe

Many of Reyes Adobe's homes date to the late 1970s or early 1980s. Some homes have private pools, patios, pergolas and drought-resistant landscaping. Not all properties are in a homeowners association. "On the northern end, you have more single-family homes, and on the southern end, there are more townhomes. The townhomes have their own little HOA," says Jessica Carter, a Realtor with Equity Union Real Estate. Stonecrest Patio Owners Association has common area amenities such as a tennis court, pool and spa. Over a year, as of February 2025, single-family home prices ranged from $1.2 million to over $1.6 million, and townhomes were in the high $700,000s to about $1 million. The CAP Index crime score in Reyes Adobe is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

Reyes Adobe Park and October's Reyes Adobe Days

Reyes Adobe Park has a playground, picnic areas and hilly terrain. "The park is really cool, and they have an annual parade during Reyes Adobe Days. It usually starts up at the elementary school, goes down Reyes Adobe Road and ends at the park," Carter says. "It's something all of Agoura would go to. Actor Jerry O'Connell was the grand marshal in 2024." Held for over 20 years, the event, also called "RAD," takes place over three days in early October and includes a fiesta, a 5K and group bike rides. Night at the Adobe, a RAD event with art, music, wine and vendors is at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site. Close by, the Lake Lindero Golf Course and Country Club has tennis, pickleball and a pool. Agoura Hills is in proximity to Malibu Creek State Park and the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area. Malibu's beaches are less than 20 miles away.

Grade-A schools, starting with Yerba Buena Elementary

Nicknamed "YB," Yerba Buena Elementary School has a media center and has been designated as a waystation for monarch butterflies. Lindero Canyon Middle School has a Spanish dual immersion program and a STEAM rotation. Spanish dual immersion continues at Agoura High School, which also has a state-of-the-art performing arts and education center. These three Las Virgenes Unified School District schools all earn A grades from Niche.

A film festival, the farmers market and the Great Race

In addition to Reyes Adobe Days, area events include the Great Race, a decades-long springtime tradition. Breakfast with the Bunny in April brings egg hunts, crafts and activities to the Reyes Adobe Historical Site. In February, there's the nature-themed Ladyface Mountain Film Festival and the Winter Art Show, which is held at Agoura Hills Recreation and Event Center. The Agoura Hills Farmers Market is at Whizin Market Square on Thursdays.

Public transportation and major roads like U.S. 101

Walkable Reyes Adobe has sidewalks, some hilly and curvy streets and many cul-de-sacs. There are some Commuter Express and LA Metro bus stops along Thousand Oaks Boulevard, which also has designated bike lanes. The AH-Go rideshare, Dial-A-Ride and the free Kanan Shuttle all serve Agoura Hills as well. There's also a summer bus to Zuma Beach. Though many people drive a full commute, some use the Kanan Park & Ride. U.S. 101 meets state Route 23 in Westlake, several miles to the west. The Hollywood Burbank Airport is about 30 miles east of Reyes Adobe.

Reyes Adobe Plaza and the Shoppes at Westlake Village

Close to U.S. 101, is Reyes Adobe Plaza, with shops and restaurants. Pizza Nosh has a pesco-vegetarian and kosher menu, and Conejo Kosher Market stocks groceries and imported items. Café Bizou serves French food and has outdoor seating. A few miles to the west, the Shoppes at Westlake Village has a Target and restaurants. To the north, there are several commercial areas, including sections of East Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Whizin Market Square, a couple of miles to the east, focuses on locally owned businesses.

Reyes Adobe Historical Site and El Camino Real

The home at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site interpretive center and museum dates to approximately 1850. As a cultural landmark, the site highlights California's history, with a connection to the Spanish missions of the 18th century via El Camino Real, or The Royal Road. Part of that historic road is modern-day U.S. Route 101, south of the Reyes Adobe neighborhood.
