Vintage Ranch
Mediterranean-style new traditional homes
Vintage Ranch’s 21st-century new traditional homes sit close together along sidewalk-lined streets, and yards here are large enough for a manicured lawn and paved two-car driveway. Cul-de-sacs are common, and the grassy hills of the Newell Open Space Preserve to the east are often visible over the rooftops. Homes typically have Mediterranean details like clay-tiled roofs and arched windows or Craftsman elements like front porches and front-gabled roofs; most have four or five bedrooms and an average size of 3,000 square feet. Prices typically range from $700,000 to $900,000, and recently remodeled homes are usually more expensive.Theater Arts at American Canyon High
Local kids can start school at Canyon Oaks Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche and is in the neighborhood’s south. They can then attend the B-plus-rated American Canyon Middle and the A-minus-rated American Canyon High, which is just southeast of the neighborhood. The high school opened in 2010 and was designed using green building practices like incorporating more natural light in classrooms and irrigating with reclaimed water. Kids here can join the Theater Arts program, which performs two full-length performances each year, plus a spring musical, in the school’s 400-seat theater. Nearby private schools include the unrated Napa Valley Montessori for pre-kindergarten through Grade 6.Only 3 miles from Interstate 80
State Route 29 borders the neighborhood’s west and leads 5 miles south to Vallejo and 10 miles north to Downtown Napa. Interstate 80 is 3 miles away and leads 37 miles south to San Francisco. Commuters can also travel to San Francisco by boat; the Vallejo Ferry Terminal is around 7 miles south. There’s no public transportation or bike lanes, and the neighborhood’s sidewalks are used mostly for dog walks and evening strolls, so most residents rely on their cars to get around. NorthBay Health Primary and Urgent Care is just over a mile north, and Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center is 4 miles south. Napa County Airport, a public airport with no commercial flights, is 5 miles north; San Francisco International Airport is 48 miles south, and San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, a smaller airport with mostly domestic flights, is a 41-mile trip.Hiking trails in the Newell Open Space Preserve
The Newell Open Space Preserve to the northeast has around 620 acres of grassy rangeland where local hikers can take in wildlife and wildflowers along over 3 miles of trails. These treeless hills are home to roaming cows, wild blackberry bushes and views of the city below. The 47-mile multi-use Napa Valley Vine Trail is currently under construction and will connect Vallejo and Calistoga. Sections of the trail in Napa and St. Helena are complete, and the American Canyon section, which will pass through the neighborhood’s east, is scheduled for completion in 2028.At the 5-acre Shenandoah Park in the neighborhood’s center, kids can climb on the fire-truck-themed playground and play a game of basketball. The 5-acre Silver Oak Park in the south has more playground space for kids. Located 4 miles south is Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, an animal-themed amusement park with popular rides like Medusa, the highest roller coaster in Northern California, and animal exhibits with alligators, cheetahs and more.
Nepalese cuisine at LASO
Restaurants and stores can be found along state Route 29 just west of the neighborhood. At Le Paris Artisan & Gourmet Café, locals can start the day with a pastry or pick up French-style desserts. For dinner, the family-owned Laso serves Nepalese-inspired cuisine like deep-fried samosas and Beef Thali, a traditional beef stew with lentils and rice. There are also national chains nearby, including Starbucks and Jack-in-the-Box. Local shops like Mid City Nursery have supplied gardeners here since 1954, and the nearby Safeway and Walmart make running errands easy. More restaurants and stores can be found 5 miles south in Vallejo and 10 miles north in Downtown Napa.Magic of the Season in Shenandoah Park
Each December, locals gather in Shenandoah Park for Magic of the Season, a one-night celebration with kids’ games, a tree-lighting ceremony and a holiday market. At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom 4 miles away, families can test their bravery each October at Fright Fest, which includes haunted mazes and scare zones in the park after dark; those who scare easily can enjoy more family-friendly fun during the day at Kids Boo Fest, which includes corn mazes and trick-or-treating. The Solano County Fairgrounds is next to Six Flags and hosts the Solano County Fair each June; here, families can take a spin on the Ferris wheel, play carnival games and learn about farm animals.A planned city center at Watson Ranch
While American Canyon does not currently have a downtown, plans are underway to build a city center in the Watson Ranch area just north of Vintage Ranch. The over 300-acre development will include shops, restaurants, an amphitheater and hundreds of single-family homes. Construction is ongoing, and there is currently no estimated completion date for the project. Residents can expect increased construction traffic through the neighborhood, but when completed, the new city center will be within walking or biking distance of Vintage Ranch. The neighborhood’s location near undeveloped land puts it at a higher risk of wildfire than other areas of American Canyon. In 2019, the neighborhood was evacuated when the American Fire came close to the area, but no homes were damaged. A fire station is in the neighborhood’s center, and residents can sign up for Nixle alerts to be notified during wildfire emergencies.
