On the western side of town, the Northern Rail Trail cuts through the historic Potter Place Railroad Station, which now houses the Andover Historical Society Museum. The trail covers almost 60 miles and crosses watersheds and forests. The Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway loops about 75 miles, heading through both Winslow State Park and Mount Kearsarge State Forest Park. “These hikes have some of the best views in the state,” Morris says. Paddlers and anglers can head out on Bradley Lake, while motorboats are permitted on Highland Lake. “Residents get a sticker to park at these lakes,” Morris says. “The beaches are the type people travel hundreds of miles to visit, and they’re in our backyard.” During the colder months, the nearby Ragged Mountain Resort has dozens of ski runs of various difficulty levels, ranging from greens to double black diamonds.

Most of Andover’s architecture consists of colonials and Cape Cods, and some properties have detached barns or separate guest houses. Morris mentions that garages are highly sought after for extra workspace and that buyers put an emphasis on finding bedroom sizes that cater to families. Sales prices typically fall between $400,000 and $550,000, though outliers can be found on either end of the range.

Private and public education in Andover
Children in kindergarten through eighth grade can attend Andover Elementary/Middle School, which earns a C-plus grade on Niche. After middle school, students can then head about 17 miles away to Penacook for Merrimack Valley High, which scores a C-minus grade. Some families choose private education for high school at Proctor Academy, which earns an A-plus grade from Niche and sits off Main Street, across the road from Andover Elementary/Middle School. Main Street also features other small-town favorites like the Andover Pizza Chef and Naughty Nellie’s Ice Cream Bar. About 10 miles east, shoppers can head to Hannaford for groceries, while the closest Market Basket sits about 17 miles south in Warner. For other essentials, Tilton’s Walmart Supercenter is about 16 miles away.

Andover is situated between interstates 89 and 93, two of New Hampshire’s main thoroughfares. Route 4 also cuts through town, leading about 70 miles southeast toward Portsmouth and 35 miles northwest to Lebanon. With no public transit, a vehicle is necessary for getting around, though transportation to nearby New London and Concord hospitals can be arranged for residents who need assistance. The Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is about 46 miles away and provides nonstop flights to major cities like Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
