Growing, thriving and gorgeous, Apison offers new homes and country estates
The community of Apison was named for the abundance of Apison shale in the area. But instead of coal mines, home buyers will find country vistas and quiet suburban living. Mostly rural, Apison is about 15 miles east of Chattanooga. It borders Ooltewah and Collegedale neighborhoods and north Georgia, about eight miles to the south. Apison’s roughly 4,200 people enjoy proximity to major employers including Volkwagen’s North American plant and Southern Adventist University.
For those seeking a middle ground between city and country living, Apison offers a rock-solid choice. “You can drive out a little-ways and feel like you’re in the country and when you do want to be in the city you’ve got Chattanooga close by,” says Max Bull, a Realtor with Richardson Group. “One of the big draws is that you can find houses with acreage and privacy -- but you’re still close to the city.”

Home prices range from modest to dazzling as do home sizes
Ranch-style homes have recently sold from $260,000 to $520,000. Recently built New Traditional homes have sold from $450,000 to $570,000, while estate-style homes with more than 3,000 square feet have sold from $1,000,000 to $12,000,000. According to Realtor Bull, how quickly houses sell is largely price-dependent. “If you find something for under $400,000 it’s going to go within days,” Bull says. “The more expensive homes might take longer to sell, but, they’re still popular and plenty are being built.”
