Valley West is home to a shopping center with a variety of businesses that are anchored by Harbor Freight, Dollar Store and Ray’s Food Place, a supermarket. Oriental Buffet offers Chinese food in a casual setting, and Kebab Café has been serving Mediterranean food in Humboldt County since 1997. The Azalea State Natural Reserve has hiking trails and is known for its western azalea flowers. Potawot Community Garden is a 3-acre certified farmers’ market on Valley West’s south side. Humboldt Beach is about 5 miles away, and while the water is too cold for anyone but wetsuit-wearing surfers, it still has sandy shores to sit on.
