Cross Creek
A mix of 20th century ranches and new builds
Several homes were built in the early to mid-20th century, but housing development started to pick up in the 1980s. Several ranch-style homes popped up across the 1980s and ’90s, measuring between 1,000 and 1,750 square feet with two to three bedrooms. In the early 2000s, the community welcomed subdivisions like Cypress Pointe, which features colonials and new-traditional homes, and Longpoint, which has townhomes. The neighborhood continues to grow today with newly constructed contemporary colonials in the Wedgewood subdivision. Homes sell from $100,000 to $350,000, and new builds typically value on the higher end. Just over half of the community's residents rent their homes.Cross Creek High features several specialized programs
The Richmond County School System has an overall C on Niche and serves over 29,000 students. Gracewood Elementary School and Pine Hill Middle School score a C-minus, while Cross Creek High School scores a C. The high school offers several programs, including a student leadership and peer mentoring program called The Backs, and the Cross Creek Academy of Military Science. The Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics, a local charter school about 12 miles away, receives a B-minus on Niche and has become an increasingly popular alternative since its opening in 2015. It offers career pathways in healthcare science, entertainment technology and cyber security.Cross Creek is near several public parks
Several outdoor spaces and parks are near Cross Creek. North View-Butler Creek Park is about 2 miles north of the neighborhood, featuring a basketball court, a multi-use sports field, a playground and a paved walking path. The Phinizy Swamp Nature Park has trails, a picnic pavilion and swamp overlooks where visitors can see wildlife like alligators, owls, dragonflies and river otters. The park also features a spot for anglers to cast a line, and the floodplain boardwalk runs directly over Butler Creek. It’s about 4 miles from Cross Creek. The neighborhood is also 8 miles from Diamond Lakes Regional Park, home to tennis courts, baseball fields and plenty of spots for fishing.Popping into Goshen Village for groceries
Most of the community’s retail activity is along or near Tobacco Road. Goshen Village is a small shopping center with Food Lion and Victoria’s Mexican Restaurant. The restaurant offers traditional Mexican fare, from chile relleno to quesabirrias. Just outside the shopping center is Bambino’s New York Style Pizzeria, which serves pizza in addition to calzones, stromboli, shrimp carbonara and various subs. There are several restaurants in Augusta South Square, including Diablo’s Southwest Grill and Pizza Hut. Additional dining options are accessible farther north on Peach Orchard Road.Heading into downtown Augusta
Cross Creek is a car-dependent community about 10 miles south of downtown Augusta. Mike Padgett Highway connects with Interstate 520 about 3 miles north, and U.S. Route 25 is accessible on the community’s west end. Piedmont Augusta has the nearest emergency room, located about 9 miles away. Augusta Regional Airport is located just east of the community, slightly elevating the area noise factor.
