Convenience is key in this South Austin neighborhood
Sendera has been an established part of South Austin for several decades, offering the comfort of a quiet suburban environment, excellent schools and homes with great curb appeal. “The location is a big draw for people, with it being within 10 miles of downtown,” says Madeline Mansen, Realtor with Peggy West Properties and longtime Sendera resident. “But there’s a strong sense of community that I love. I’m very close with my neighbors. We even go on vacations together, so it’s definitely a close community.” The community was developed in the late 1990s and is surrounded by parks, trails and outdoor areas, giving residents a blend of residential and natural amenities. Community closeness is not only shown between neighbors, as events like the fall festival, the 4th of July celebration and the annual Easter Bunny event bring residents closer together.

Contemporary homes with great curb appeal
Slaughter Lane splits Sendera and Sendera South, but residents of each subdivision have access to all of the amenities. “They all use the same community pool and amenities, but they’re just separated by that main road,” says Lori Anne Goto, a longtime resident of Austin and founder of Encore Real Estate. Contemporary brick homes file along sidewalk-lined roads, with mature trees adorning manicured front lawns. Home prices in the community tend to range between $500,000 and $760,000, with some rental properties mixed in. “The prices have gone up since they first started construction. But I like to tell people, when you’re buying in Austin the prices are always going up,” Goto says.

Texas 1 Loop and the MoPac Expressway provides commuting convenience
“The location’s great because you’re right by the freeway,” Goto says. Proximity to MoPac is a big draw for many residents as it allows easy access throughout the Austin area. Downtown Austin is around 11 miles from Sendera and easily accessible from the Texas 1 Loop. Residents tend to drive to get around as there isn’t much public transportation around. However, the neighborhood itself is very walkable. “There’s some walkability with the houses in Sendera. You can walk to some of the stores and restaurants on Slaughter Lane. Some are also really close to the schools,” Goto says. Residents can use the MoPac to get to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, which is about 6 miles away.
