The Seneca River is a popular kayaking and boating waterway in the neighborhood.
Leafy suburb well-connected to recreation and everyday conveniences
The looped residential streets of Bayberry might lead passersby to think it’s just another suburb, but the sought-after neighborhood is loved for its active community involvement and proximity to both modern-day amenities and natural recreation within the Finger Lakes Region of central New York. “Bayberry offers a beautiful balance between convenience and comfort,” says Realtor Donna Jordan of Howard Hanna Real Estate. “We are in our own little world; we have low traffic and quiet neighborhood streets but easy access to all conveniences like highways and many services, stores and restaurants.”
Despite its connectivity, Bayberry maintains a true suburban feel while surrounding its residents in a sea of nature. The neighborhood brims with recreational opportunities, from the forest-banked Seneca River and bass-filled Onondaga Lake to the handful of flourishing greenways that flank the suburb. “The dedicated green space is important to residents and people coming in,” adds Jordan, who has been living in the Syracuse area since 1986. “Just knowing you have natural space around you is huge.”
Nearby grocery stores, local eateries and shopping centers
Residents are within arm’s reach of an array of shopping and dining options along Oswego Road. The main commercial thoroughfare houses shopping centers like the Bayberry Plaza. Here, Wegmans fulfills grocery and pantry needs, and locals can grab a bite to eat at casual locales like Twin Trees 57 sports bar or Bagelicious of Bayberry. The plaza also hosts the Bayberry Farmer’s Market. Every Wednesday in May through October, vendors line the plaza to sell their locally sourced and handmade items, including honey, baked goods, flowers and more.
Further south, the Glenn Crossing Shopping Mall has an Aldi and Walgreens. Thrifty Shopper offers a wide selection of second-hand apparel and goods, while chain restaurants like Dunkin’ and KFC provide convenient stop-ins. A diverse range of local restaurants offer a sit-down atmosphere, including Italian favorites like Il Limone Restaurant and Avicolli’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria. Jordan says that the neighborhood’s proximity to these conveniences is a huge selling point for residents. “You can be in Clay in 10 minutes, but we don’t have to go into the more congested areas,” she says. “If you need something on a Saturday afternoon and don’t want to go into traffic, you have lots of shops, drug stores, banking and everything you need right here.”

Natural spaces abound in Bayberry
Sandwiched between three expansive green spaces and Onondaga Lake, Bayberry’s natural setting creates no shortage of recreational opportunities. Greenways curve through Bayberry, culminating in the grounds of Onondaga Lake Park. Several smaller parks such as Willow Bay Park offer lake access for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Those who prefer to stay on land can take to the trails that hug the 5-mile body of water.
Residents can also access the 0.6-mile trail in Friendship Woods, a 13-acre wooded area that abuts the neighborhood. Crossed by the Seneca River and part of a larger 100-acre nature preserve, the natural upland area is also the site of Private Timber Banks Golf Club and Marina and the Northwest Family YMCA.
For sporting activities, locals head northeast to Clay Central Park to use its 10 sports fields and courts, as well as a 36-hole disc golf course. Along Bayberry’s south end, Duerr Park features 4 baseball diamonds and is home to the Liverpool Little League. Folks play a game of tennis or basketball on the park’s 2 hard courts and access the swimming pool, which is free to the public, during the summer.
“Each of the communities has their own designated parks that are hidden within the community,” Jordan says. “If you don’t live there you don’t know about them.” These secluded parks have playgrounds, swing sets and open green space. Jordan adds that residents also take advantage of the nearby high school campus amenities. “The whole Liverpool High School complex is great for residents,” she says. “It’s like having our own country club.”

Colonial-inspired homes along looping streets
Bayberry’s looped residential streets feature a charming mix of colonial-influenced split-level and ranch-style homes, with a few Cape Cods peppered in between. Prices typically range from $110,000 to $410,000. Jordan says that though most of the suburb’s homes were built in the 60s and 70s, they maintain their high-quality builds. “You’ll notice that all the houses have eaves,” she notes. “You’ve got huge overhangs, oak hardwoods and beams because they were trying to build high-quality homes.” Many have one- to two-car garages, reflecting the car dependency of the suburb – and even though the neighborhood lacks sidewalks, residents still walk its wide streets to access the nearby parks.
Career-readiness at Liverpool High School
Students in Bayberry are part of the Liverpool Central School District. Depending on zoning, kids may attend one of four elementary schools, such as Liverpool Elementary or Elmcrest Elementary. Both earn B Niche scores. Seventh and eighth graders can attend A-minus-rated Liverpool Middle School before advancing to Liverpool High School, which maintains a B. Home of the Warriors, Liverpool High offers a top-rated athletics program, including high-achieving swimming, soccer and football teams. The high school also offers Career and Technical Education Pathways to help students prepare for careers and college after graduation.

Active community associations keep residents engaged
The Bayberry Community Association maintains a robust events calendar for residents, with seasonal celebrations and casual gatherings alike. Garage sales take place every spring and fall and community picnics gather neighbors of all ages. Events such as the Christmas tree lighting and Holiday Home Decorating Contest, keep festive spirits high during the holiday season.
Additionally, the suburb’s surrounding parks host year-round recreational events for the community, such as a summer concert series in Clay Central Park’s amphitheater.
Oswego Road is the main road through the neighborhood with many shops and restaurants on it.
From Oswego Road to Interstate 81 and Downtown Syracuse
As the main commercial thoroughfare, Oswego Road spans the length of Bayberry and leads to Interstate 90, which connects to Interstate 81 and Downtown Syracuse. Bayberry residents are less than a 10-mile drive from the heart of Downtown Syracuse, and only 6 miles from the Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Centro bus stops are scattered throughout the neighborhood, linking commuters to neighboring communities.
Technology jobs anticipated
Those moving to the area should be aware that Micron Technology has pledged to begin construction in 2025 on the United States’ largest semiconductor manufacturing plant close to the town of Clay. The project is anticipated to provide jobs for 9,000 people and is hoped to spur 41,000 more jobs from related industries.
