Between the scenic Rimrocks trails and the active business corridor of Grand Avenue, North Central Billings offers spacious lots and quiet residential streets. Around 4 miles from downtown, the neighborhood is home to plentiful outdoor recreation areas, cliffside views and an array of restaurants and amenities. “North Central Billings has a charming feel with old growth trees and more established residential pockets,” says Boyd Charter, a real estate agent with Billings Real Estate Professionals who grew up in the area. “A lot of people love the community because it’s close to the colleges and hospitals.” Both Montana State University Billings and Rocky Mountain College lie just east.

The area’s streets are lined with bungalows, ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and modern traditional homes, most of which were built throughout the mid-to-late 20th century. “A lot of original, older homes are in the area,” says Charter. “So you’ll find charming, architectural details that aren’t so common nowadays.” Most homes sit on spacious, quarter to half-acre lots, with fenced-in back yards and attached two-car garages. Four single-family homes have sold in North Central Billings over the past 12 months, according to Homes.com data as of October 2025, with prices ranging from $300,000 to $450,000. However, luxury hillside homes on the north side of the neighborhood are commonly listed for $900,000 and above, with prices increasing with square footage and modern upgrades.

Fine arts courses at Billings Senior High and a nearby college
Most students of North Central are served by Poly Drive Elementary School, which earns a B grade from Niche. With a B-minus grade, Will James Middle School has a variety of extracurricular activities, from anime club to orchestra. Billings Senior High School receives a B and offers an abundance of art education and music courses, from jewelry and sculpture to percussion ensemble and musical improvisation. The private Rocky Mountain College lies on the northeast side of the community with a verdant, 60-acre campus and around 1,000 undergraduate students.

Athletic facilities and trails around every corner
There is an abundance of parks and recreation areas in North Central Billings, and most homes are less than a mile from the nearest park or trailhead. Rose Park has paved walking paths, picnic tables and facilities for volleyball, basketball, tennis and baseball, along with a playground and an outdoor pool. The Billings Rimrocks are sandstone bluffs on the city’s north side and serve as a popular recreation area for mountain biking and hiking. Zimmerman Park sits atop the Rimrocks and has over 4 miles of winding trails and some popular rock-climbing routes. “There are tons of trails across Billings,” says Charter. “And the streets on this side of town are very walkable. It’s common to see people out jogging and biking.” Just south of the neighborhood, Yegen Golf Club has been serving the area for over 30 years, with an 18-hole course, a pro shop and a practice facility. The club also offers lessons and multiple leagues.

Grand Avenue is the area’s main commercial corridor, with local restaurants, convenient amenities and nationally known chains lining the thoroughfare. Bozeman is around 140 miles west via Interstate 90.
