Concourse
Urban Core Neighborhood in Bronx, New York
Bronx County 10452, 10456
Historic Art Deco co-ops under $650,000
Housing options in Concourse are almost exclusively co-op and apartment buildings. On Grand Concourse, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Art Deco co-ops listed on the National Register of Historic Places have units priced between $300,000 and $650,000. Many of these prewar buildings have ornately tiled lobbies and modern amenities that offer the best of both worlds. “The Bronx is the last frontier, because everything in the other boroughs is already so highly priced,” Ivaska-Sergeant says. Co-op buildings at the neighborhood’s north end have units priced down to $150,000, while townhouses at the south end of Walton Avenue with more space can cost around $1.2 million.Multiple parks and an upcoming waterfront play area
Within the neighborhood, Joyce Kilmer Park and Franz Sigel Park provide residents green space to relax and walk their dogs. Foster Park at the north end has playgrounds, athletic fields, a skate park and an outdoor swimming pool. And in 2026, Lower Concourse Park will open along the Harlem River to add more lawns, play areas and a water overlook.Top-ranked charter school
With the neighborhood’s narrow size and residential focus, families have just two local school options. P.S. 114 teaches preschool through fifth grade and has a C-plus grade from Niche, and the Boys Preparatory Charter School teaches preschool through eighth grade earns a C. Nearby, the KIPP Academy Charter School teaches kindergarten through 12th grade and has an A grade.Concerts, local street fairs and a cyclist tradition
The most frequent events in Concourse are baseball games and concerts at Yankee Stadium, although the subway and Metro-North trains right by the stadium generally prevent traffic jams. The local business district hosts an annual summer food festival on River Avenue, and in October, cyclists begin the Tour de Bronx at 161st Street and Grand Concourse.Express and local subway options, plus easy upstate commuting
Getting into and out of Concourse is easy, thanks to several train stations. The 2, 4 and 5 trains offer express routes into Manhattan, and the B and D trains make local stops. Additionally, the Metro-North station by Yankee Stadium travels on the Hudson River line upstate to day-trip and commuter destinations like Cold Spring and Poughkeepsie.Fast casual dining and a convenient Bronx mall
Two rows of restaurants serve Concourse on 161st Street and 167th Street. Their cuisines reflect the city’s diversity, including Zona de Cuba, which features a tropical bar, live music and rooftop seating. For date-night restaurants, Ivaska-Sergeant recommends checking out the larger restaurant scene 2 miles south in Mott Haven. A Key Food Supermarket by Yankee Stadium is handy for groceries, and the Bronx Terminal Market mall at the south end has a Target and big-box stores.
