A neighborhood split between Champlin and Brooklyn Park
Northwoods’ location on the edge of Brooklyn Park and Champlin means residents can access the amenities offered by both cities. While its newer builds and residential streets are in line with most northern Brooklyn Park neighborhoods, the neighborhood is split between two school districts. The area sits farther back from Brooklyn Park’s highway system, creating a quiet, private atmosphere, but residents are just down the road from a major employer. “A lot of people that are buying homes work for Target, and Target has a huge campus over there,” says Realtor David Kim with Imagine Realty. “So that creates a lot of traffic and interest in the area.”

Local baseball diamonds and nearby nature reserves
Northwoods Park’s playground is popular because of its accessibility features and its umbrellas that shield the play equipment from the sun and rain. The multiple baseball diamonds host local leagues, especially Todd Anderson Field with its turf and concession stand. Rush Creek Regional Trail runs along the southern side of the neighborhood, offering 10 miles of hiking and biking along a paved stretch that connects Mississippi Gateway Regional Park to the east and Elm Creek Park Reserve to the west. Elm Creek offers almost 5,000 acres of space, with everything from hiking and mountain biking to swimming and archery. “It’s the second largest nature preserve in the state,” Kim says.

Getting to Champlin and Brooklyn Park's nearby amenities
Northwoods’s location sets it back from major thoroughfares, and the community isn’t served by public transportation. Most residential streets branch off Oxbow Creek Drive, and 109th Avenue and Douglas Drive link the community with the rest of Brooklyn Park and Champlin. Minnesota Medical Center and North Memorial Health-Maple Grove Hospital are both about 7 miles away.
The Target Northern Campus is just south of Northwoods in Oak Grove, and the area immediately west of Northwoods is more industrial. Data and fulfillment centers sit on the other side of Winnetka Avenue, offering more employment opportunities. Downtown Minneapolis is about 15 miles south, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is about 26 miles away.

5-8 Grill and Bar offers American fare, but their staple is the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese that melts while grilling. Instead of bread, Clive’s Roadhouse brings out a small bowl of popcorn to snack on. Aldi is about 3 miles away, Cub is 2, and Hy-Vee is another mile beyond that.
