Carlsbad Village is a walkable coastal community
From its pristine beaches to colorful local businesses, Carlsbad Village is a lively coastal neighborhood north of San Diego. “The village vibe really brings people here. They like being able to walk to the boutiques and the restaurants and being just a couple blocks from the beach,” says Pat Camerena, a Realtor with First Time Real Estate and longtime Carlsbad native. “Being west of the 5 puts everybody in that walkable area of being able to do their shopping and dining and take long walks along the beach.” Major streets are lined with eclectic businesses ranging from coffee shops and wine bars to clothing stores. Public city and state beaches offer plenty of room to lounge in the sand or catch a wave. The 5 Freeway, a primary north-south route, is conveniently close for commuters.

Locally owned shops and restaurants provide wide-ranging options
State Street, Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Village Drive are the main commercial areas in the neighborhood, lined with restaurants covering a variety of cuisines. “Nick’s on State Street is great. You’ve got Cicciotti’s on Grand Avenue,” Camerena says. Nick’s serves upscale American fare like prime rib and salmon, while Cicciotti’s is known for its traditional Italian dishes in a casual, rustic setting. Camerena also recommends Le Papagayo, which serves Mediterranean and Mexican-inspired dishes. Locally owned stores on State Street sell clothes, jewelry and shoes. The State Street Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday afternoon and offers regionally sourced produce. Nearby supermarkets include Smart & Final and Vons. For more shopping, residents can head to The Shoppes at Carlsbad, a large mall with several chain stores.
