Neighborhood in Castle Rock, Colorado
Douglas County 80104, 80108
It’s been said that if one really wants to feel alive, go to Colorado, specifically, go to Terrain. This Castle Rock neighborhood is one of those places where you can reach for the sky and yet still feel grounded. Terrain is a development that takes in the beauty of Colorado’s rugged, open vistas while offering its residents all the modern amenities. “The neighbors know each other here. It’s a very active community with a small-town feel,” says Tracy Husley, a Realtor with RE/MAX Alliance, who has lived in the area much of her life.
Terrain’s central location is one of its biggest appeals. Denver is only 31 miles to the north and Colorado Springs is 44 miles south. Both commutes are under an hour. Both cities are reached via the Interstate 25 corridor, easily accessed by several highways in Terrain. While some people in the growing Castle Rock area can telework from home, a majority of workers commute to either Denver or Colorado Springs.
There’s a home style for almost everyone in Terrain, from modern farmhouses to raised ranches, craftsman, and contemporary homes. Homes stay on the market for about 30 days and prices in the neighborhood range from about $600,000 for a single-story, three-bedroom to $940,000 for a large, five-bedroom dream home. The houses are well-laid out in newer developments. Landscaped front yards, off-street parking and wide sidewalks are common throughout the community. Open spaces and parks are just steps from most homes.
Terrain is in the Douglas County School District. Sage Canyon Elementary School has a student body of about 580 students in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. The school has a B-minus rating from Niche. “One of the biggest highlights of living in Terrain is that kids can walk to their elementary school — and they all go to the same school,” says Realtor Husley. Mesa Middle School has nearly 1,000 students and a Niche rating of B-plus. Most students in the neighborhood will attend Douglas County High School. With a student body of 1,800 students, the school holds a B rating.
Terrain is known for its beautiful topography and rolling hills, notes Hulsey. There’s plenty of outdoor activities, including several parks within walking distance. Wrangler Park, easily accessible by foot, has two playgrounds, a tennis court, a multi-use turf field, and several paved trails. Ravenwood Park, also in Terrain, is known for its great views of the Rocky Mountains. The park has several hiking trails of varied lengths and difficulties for both novice and experienced hikers. It also features ballfields and playgrounds. A standout feature is an extra-long in-ground sliding board. Dog Bone Park is a large area in Terrain that was created expressly for beloved pets. This off-leash area allows plenty of room for humans and canines to exercise.
After spending time in the wide-open natural spaces, nearby Castle Rock offers plenty of opportunities for socializing and entertainment. Throughout the year, a host of festivals and events keep residents busy. From spring jazz festivals to Oktoberfest, and holiday celebrations including tree lightings and carriage rides, there is always something to do. Restaurant Week, held in October, features new menus from more than 15 local restaurants.
Shoppers will find plenty of stores and boutiques to keep them busy. King Soopers grocery store is within an easy walk of the neighborhood. Target, Walmart and other big box stores are all less than four miles away. When browsing in downtown Castle Rock, make sure to stop in at Mod Mountain Boutique to check out the unique assortment of clothing and accessories for women on the go.
And if all that shopping makes you hungry, there are plenty of restaurant options. Grab a bite at 212 Pizza, which specializes in locally sourced artisan food. It’s mile-high peach pie is a local favorite. The Great Divide Brewery and Roadhouse, also in Castle Rock, features original beers. It’s large patio and views of the mountain vistas make it a welcoming place to spend an afternoon or an evening unwinding.
