Tucson metro neighborhood overlooked by Catalina Mountains
Cimarron Foothills Estates stands among the affluent neighborhoods that make up a larger Tucson metro community at the base of the Catalina Mountains. The neighborhood sits close to Sabino Canyon, one of the leading outdoor destinations in this part of Arizona. Neighboring other canyons, Sabino stands out with its richly diverse flora and fauna and hiking opportunities. However, many here don’t necessarily need to leave their blocks to enjoy their surroundings. “I love Cimarron. Cimarron’s beautiful. A lot of the houses in Cimarron are going to have stunning views of both the mountains and the city,” says Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with Re/Max professionals. “You’ll see a lot of people walking in there, and you’re really close to the mountain range just hovering above you.”

Spanish style homes along winding roads
Like other places in the Catalina Foothills area, Cimarron boasts spacious lots that can go over an acre — a benefit partly resulting from the community’s design. “I think I like the way that neighborhood was built, too. If you look at it on a map, you’ll see it’s not grid-like. It’s winding roads through the small hills, so you get a lot more space between the houses in there. It’s got a very custom vibe to it,” Baker says. Located amid desert landscapes covered with a mix of cacti, palms and short trees, homes here showcase the Spanish designs prevalent across Tucson. Homes here primarily run between $800,000 and $1 million.

The neighborhood is less than 10 minutes from the mouth of Sabino Canyon. The area boasts well over two dozen miles of trail, consisting of a mix of smooth dirt and paved paths and more rugged passages. The canyon draws visitors ranging from nature lovers and photographers to serious trail runners and hikers. As they cross the saguaro-dotted land, visitors have a strong chance of spotting reptiles, bobcats and other common Arizona critters like scorpions. The canyon also features waterfalls and rocky streams.

Next to El Charro location and diverse dining scene
Flanked by two small commercial districts, Cimarron is close to several shops and a wide range of eateries. In addition to pasta and pizza, Piazza Gavi’s menu includes seafood options like bowls of mussels and shrimp simmered in broths. The area also offers a diverse selection of Latin cuisine. El Charro Cafe has a location here. One of the Tucson-based chain’s claims to fame is being the country's longest continuously- and single family-run Mexican restaurant. Its founder was also believed to be the creator of the now widely popular chimichanga. Adding to the cultural food scene here is Banhdicted, which serves a fusion of French and Vietnamese cuisine. Bashas’ and Safeway are the nearest grocery stores. “We have a lot of really wild food in Tucson. It’s from all over the world,” says Christina Esala, a Realtor with Tierra Antigua Realty.
