The old village in Northeast Ohio

Named after the waterfall at its center, Chagrin Falls is a small village situated atop the Chagrin River. Residents enjoy the perks of having highly-rated schools, a convenient shopping district, scenic views and a strong community spirit.

“People are proud to live here,” says Kelsey Wolf, a realtor with the award winning Karen Eagle Group and Chagrin Falls resident. “Everyone is friendly, and everyone knows each other. They speak and wave to you when you walk by. It’s really as charming as it gets,” she says.

Shops in Downtown Chagrin

Downtown Chagrin is not just a shopping, dining and event hub, it's a testament to the village's unique character. Around Triangle Park, rows of small shops and restaurants line North Main. “Everyone shops small businesses,” says Wolf. “You'll hardly find any chains. There’s a Starbucks, but it’s mostly locally owned places.”

Community cornerstones include 17 River Grille, Yours Truly and Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop, which has been serving artisan popcorn for over 70 years. Ample boutiques, bookstores, toy stores, banks and coffee shops are also situated in Downtown Chagrin. “You can grab a coffee from Hartwood, maybe go to the bookstore. There are tons of boutiques and places to grab lunch,” says Wolf.

For essentials, there’s Chagrin Falls Shopping Plaza which is home to Heinen's Grocery Store and CVS.

Annual events at the Triangle

Chagrin Falls is not just a place to live but a place to celebrate. The Triangle is the heart of annual events, drawing residents and visitors alike. From the magical Christmas tree lighting at Triangle Park to the thrilling popcorn drop during the New Year celebration, there's always something to look forward to. Other highlights include Reunion Weekend for Chagrin High School, The Chagrin Film Fest in October and the Memorial Day weekend celebration.

The historic North Main Street Bridge over the Chagrin River will be under construction for the next two years, but The Chagrin Falls Merchant Association says that residents should expect staple events to continue. They are also looking forward to adding additional events during the bridge construction, including an Antique Crawl and a Street Performer Fest.

Parks, recreation and entertainment

By walking just a couple of blocks north of the Triangle, residents can enjoy the Chagrin Waterfall at Riverside Park. “You can take your kids to the park to feed the ducks or play at the playground,” says Wolf. “There’s also a flight of stairs that takes you down to the waterfall.” Kids can also enjoy tennis or swim camps at the Chagrin Recreation Center.

Riverside Park hosts various festivals in the spring and summer, including Art by the Falls, sponsored by the Valley Art Center. And for indoor entertainment, residents head to the Chagrin Valley Little Theater or Chagrin Valley Roller Rink on South Main Street.

Four highly rated schools

Quaint craftsman homes

Main cobblestone roads branch off into smooth, paved residential blocks and cul-de-sacs lined with bungalows and craftsman-style homes. Tall established trees contribute to the village’s quaint feel, and paved sidewalks and a compact design make areas walker and biker-friendly.

Single-family homes sell between $280,000 for a three-bed bungalow that needs some TLC to upwards of $1.9 million for a new traditional mini-mansion on a private cul-de-sac. There are also condos and townhouses throughout this village, ranging from $66,000 for an older one-bed to upwards of $1.9 million for a luxury three-bedroom townhouse on the river.
