Just south of Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Eagle Lake's landscape spans from undeveloped swaths of land on the neighborhood's west side to hotels, business parks and commercial areas on the east. The area is dotted with single-family homes, townhouses and apartments, and newer developments mix with more established residences. "It's just a nice area. It's very quiet and peaceful, and I see people walking all the time," says Jasmin Hilbert, leasing specialist at Avion Point Apartments in the neighborhood. "It's a convenient location. We have a lot of people that come into our community because they work at the airport."

Apartments, townhouses and single-family homes
The City Park mixed-use development, near the neighborhood's eastern side next to the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, has single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. Recently built, four-bedroom townhouses in this development typically cost between $400,000 and $450,000. Single-family homes in City Park and the rest of Eagle Lake feature new traditional styles priced between $400,000 and $500,000 with prominent, two-car garages, simple entryways with columns and brick detailing, and wide residential streets lined with sidewalks. More established neighborhoods, especially towards the west side, often have brick ranches and split-levels surrounded by mature trees.

Residents can stock up on local produce at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, a sprawling indoor-outdoor venue open Wednesday through Sunday. For day-to-day errands, Berewick Town Center, just outside the neighborhood, has a Harris Teeter, UPS Store and Walgreens. For dining in Eagle Lake, Jocks and Jills has salads, burgers, soup and wraps. "A lot of people go there on their lunch breaks, Hilbert says. "I like to get the turkey burger." Residents can also pick up Greek and American dishes at Kosta's Kitchen off Yorkmont Road.

Attractions in Uptown and NoDa
For a weekend out, residents can take a swing at Top Golf in the neighborhood or drive east for nightlife and entertainment in Uptown Charlotte or NoDa, Charlotte's arts district anchored by the bars and restaurants on North Davidson Street. Uptown Charlotte, 7 miles east of Eagle Lake, has major venues such as the Bank of America Stadium, home to the Carolina Panthers NFL team, and the Spectrum Center arena, a concert venue and home to the Charlotte Hornets NBA team. Eagle Lake also has the Billy Graham Library, an attraction dedicated to showcasing the evangelical Christian pastor's life and accomplishments.
Uptown Charlotte and all the big city offers is only minutes away for Eagle Lake residents.

Students attend Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools
Students in Eagle Lake may start at Steel Creek Elementary, which earned a C-plus from Niche. Older students move on to Robert F. Kennedy Middle School and Olympic High School, which earned B-minus and B grades from Niche, respectively. Olympic High School offers career pathways for students, including engineering, game art design, sports marketing, carpentry and more. Students may also attend private schools such as the K-12 John Crosland School. The neighborhood is also home to the Carolinas College of Health Sciences, which offers nursing, phlebotomy, radiation therapy and more health-related programs.

Renaissance Park and Catawba River
Renaissance Park is the area's largest park. Here, locals can hop on their board at the skate ramp, try their hand at disc golf on the scenic course, or practice their swing on the rolling fairways. The area also has a dog park, soccer fields, tennis and volleyball courts, and miles of trails. West of the neighborhood, Catawba River has natural scenery and recreational opportunities like boating, jet skiing and fishing.

Commuting from Eagle Lake by car or train
Residents have a quick drive on West Boulevard or ride from the Woodlawn light rail station to Uptown Charlotte, about 6 miles away. Although Eagle Lake is directly south of Charlotte Douglass International Airport, most homes aren't close enough for noise to be a major disruption. "You can hear planes fly overhead, and you can see them, but they're pretty quiet since they already took off," Hilbert says. Commuting is easy for residents working at the airport or in one of the area's office parks. "Most of our residents work at the airport. The commute is only 10 minutes," Hilbert says. "The traffic is kind of busy in the morning time, but towards the afternoon around 5:30, everyone's heading the opposite way, so it isn't as bad."
