Olde Whitehall
Suburban Neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina
Mecklenburg County 28273

New constructions for prices below Charlotte’s average
Colonial Revival and ranch-style homes can be found all throughout Olde Whitehall’s subdivision of the same name, which sets the community apart from Ayrsley where townhouses are more common. “Lots are maybe even twice as big in Olde Whitehall than in Ayrsley, so it’s great for families with kids and pets,” Anderson says. Despite its name, subdivision’s homes only date back to the 1980s through the early 2000s. The rest of Olde Whitehall is rather new, from townhouses christened in the 2020s to the condos of Oak Hill Village. Old growth trees are still common, particularly on the west side of the neighborhood, where lots are on the larger size. Some subdivisions such as Ayrshire Glen have sidewalks. Detached homes and townhouses range in price from $300,000 to $400,000, while condos usually fall between $275,000 and $325,000. This is below Charlotte’s average home value of roughly $450,000.Parks with various outdoor activities, plus a unique sculpture
A wealth of outdoor amenities can be found along South Tryon Street. Renaissance Park boasts an 18-hole disc golf course, big and small dog parks, skatepark, tennis courts and more. Residents are also close to the oldest nature preserve in Mecklenburg County. McDowell Nature Preserve overlooks scenic Lake Wylie, hosting wooded trails lined with spring wildflowers and a nature center with exhibits and live animals. Across Interstate 485, residents will find Metalmorphosis, a rotating modern outdoor sculpture developed by a European count, Riprand von Arco. The metallic sculpture sits atop a fountain surrounded by benches and flower beds in a small plaza, a quiet space for rest and reflection. At Ayrsley Grand Cinema, locals can catch the latest flicks from reclining chairs, while thrill-seekers will love to ride the rollercoasters at Carowinds amusement park.Olde Whitehall’s tech-savvy schools
Students can attend Steele Creek Elementary, which earns an overall C-plus from Niche, and Robbert F. Kennedy Middle, which earns a B-minus. Kennedy Middle students receive Chromebooks for usage during the school day. Olympic High School offers five different National Academy Foundation (NAF) career pathways that prepare students for work or additional education in fields such as health science, engineering and manufacturing, and finance and business. Niche awards Olympic High an overall grade of B. All three of these schools neighbor each other and are within a 4-mile drive of all residences.Cars, buses and planes
Most residents are within a 2-mile drive of Interstate 485, which loops around Charlotte. Uptown is a straight shot away thanks to Interstate 77 and South Tryon Street. Residents can expect an 8- to 9-mile commute and heavy traffic during peak hours. Charlotte Area Transit System bus line 16 also follows South Tryon Street, ending at Uptown. Charlotte Douglas International Airport, one of the busiest in the US, is about 9 miles north.Shopping, snacking and socializing in Olde Whitehall
Whitehall Commons, a shopping center, is just off West Arrowood Road, within 2 miles of many homes. Familiar stores there include a Walmart Supercenter and Lowe’s, along with several fast-food establishments. As the name suggests, Piedmont Social House is for more than just dining, though their high-end, Southern-inspired meals are certainly popular with locals. The establishment has become one of Olde Whitehall’s most popular fixtures, bringing the community together for craft beers, billiards and bowling. Mac’s Speed Shop attracts more than just motorcyclists, and not just on bike nights, where customers enjoy drink specials and fun times. Families flock to this local restaurant chain to enjoy Southern comfort food and live music on select dates, and their homemade sauces are available for purchase.
