An Anoka County suburb filled with parks and lakes

Located 15 miles north of Minneapolis is Circle Pine, a residential community tucked away among fields of oak and elm trees. The suburb is packed with parks & lakes, with these features being some of the biggest draws to the area. "When the community was established back in the 1950s, the goal was to have a lot of parks and open space, and as the community has grown and filed out its borders, we've managed to adhere to that," says City Council member Matt Percy. While Circle Pines may be a small town with just over 5000 people, there's no shortage of activities for residents to explore, according to Percy: "There is just so much opportunity for people to get out, put down their electronic devices, and just enjoy nature." Homes here start at $200,000 and go up to $600,000.

A "crown jewel" of a lake

With over 5 different parks residents have their pick of green spaces to choose from in the neighborhood. "We were just recently talking with our Park Board, and the ratio of parks to citizens in Circle Pines is about five times the norm," Percy says. "We're talking 25 acres per every 100 households when the norm is somewhere closer to 10." Golden Lake Park is one of the most popular options, offering amenities such as sports fields, a playground, a beach and pavilions. The park is also next to Golden Lake, allowing residents to participate in water-based recreational activities like fishing. According to Percy, "We have a lot of jewels in Circle Pines, but Golden Lake Park on the southwestern side of the lake is the crown jewel. We have more resources focused here than any other park, and it has so many benefits and amenities."

The area is pretty safe. I'm able to take walks by myself, even as its starting to get dark out. It's pretty nice looking too.

I love this small city, right next to blaine, we are a community where you know a lot of people, and we all go to Centennial for school and the same stores to shop. People are friendly and you can make friends with most people.

Circle Pines is a typical suburb that surrounds Centennial, a pretty good school district. It is a decent and safe place to live, but not anything special. It seems like in this area, more and more trees get cut down for needless projects every year. There are also lots of lousy neighbors who let their dogs bark constantly or party late at night. Since most houses here are very close to their neighbors, you will see the people you live by a lot, so be sure to take that into consideration. I have had a good life in the area, but I'm excited to eventually move on from it.
