Historic city home to the busiest airport in the world
Travelers through Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport most likely don’t realize they are in the historic city with a passion for brunch when waiting for their next flight at the world’s busiest airport. Initiating in 1846 from a land grant, College Park’s urban historic district is the fourth largest in the state, featuring 867 structures on the National Register of Historic Places. The collection includes homes, monuments, churches and schools, among others. “It is an attractive area for not only airport personnel but everyone,” says Rayshell Scott, a Realtor with Better Homes and Garden Real Estate Metro Brokers, with five years of experience. “It has a historical element, has a prestigious private school and many restaurants along Main Street.”

Historic homes to new townhouse developments
Off Main Street are brick ranch homes and Craftsman cottages, some of which are historic, line of tight city streets. The properties feature compact yards, some elevated off the tight sidewalks that dot the roads. More recently, modern, new-construction townhouses have started to be developed. Most properties range between $300,000 to $500,000. “The market is moving slower here right now, with properties lasting around 60 days,” Scott says.

Home to the world’s busiest airport
Located 10 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta, College Park is along U.S. Route 29, which serves as the city’s Main Street and has easy access to Interstate 85, one of three cross-country interstates that connect in Atlanta. The Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has city light rail and bus services. Commuters can catch the Yellow or Red Lines at the College Park MARTA Station or the bus throughout the city. College Park is home to the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which is known as the busiest airport in the world, with 2,100 arrivals and departures daily. While the sound score in the area ranks as high, “I have never heard residents complain about the airport noise, but the airport is right there,” Scott says.

Staying active at multiple city-operated facilities
The city promotes outdoor recreation for residents of all ages through multiple community centers and parks. Hugh Conley Recreation Center provides indoor recreation with a weight room, community gathering room and the Donna Stuart Gymnasium. In the summer, residents dip in the attached Conley Pool, open from June to August. Behind the center is Bill Badget Stadium and Bill Evans Baseball Field, which both host youth and high school sports. The surrounding green space offers a playground and outdoor basketball courts, which the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks donated. Golfers can take a swing at the College Park Golf Course. A public track, the facility features a two-level driving range and is known for its log cabin clubhouse.

The ”Mecca for Brunch”
Main Street in College Park almost serves as the city’s makeshift commercial district and features an Eden Fresh Market for weekly groceries. Known as “the Mecca for Brunch,” Main Street is slammed with breakfast spots. Lines form regularly at places like the Breakfast Boys, which offers jerk chicken with sweet potato waffles, and the Corner Grille, which is housed in the original St. John’s Episcopal Church Building dating back to 1906 or Nouveau Bar and Grill, which serves brunch in the morning and turns into a modern bar with Karaoke on Friday nights. Main Street also features restaurants open for more than the first meal of the day, like Noodle, a community staple for 20 years that serves a variety of Asian fare.
