Remodels, renovations and rentals
Small workers' cottages and bungalows from the middle of the 20th century are perched on slightly sloped lawns. With less than 1,000 square feet, the homes usually sell between $115,000 and $175,000. "Most homes need some renovations," Cheezum says. "The updates are mostly cosmetic or for utilities; not too many will require heavy restoration projects." However, a limited number of homes need major renovations before they're up to living standards, and those sell for as low as $80,000. Cracked cement driveways lead to the empty lots left behind from demolished homes, but some new construction ranch-style homes have filled the empty spaces, ranging between $200,000 and $240,000. Subdivisions with Colonial Revivals took over the land between the area's large industrial and manufacturing plazas in the early 2000s. The two-story buildings with attached garages range in price from $140,000 to $290,000. A few large apartment complexes are along the northern border, adding to the "Mix of long-time residents, investors and first-time homebuyers in the area," Fraim says.Community centers with parks and pools
Maloney Park spans 24 acres just outside the neighborhood's southwestern end, with activities for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors. Tennis and basketball courts are usually busy with pick-up games while kids practice their batting and kicking at the baseball and soccer fields. A paved walking trail winds around the sports courts and playground, leading to gazebos and pavilions. Adjacent to the park is the St. Stephen's Community House, a nonprofit organization that offers medical services, STEAM after-school and summer programs and a Mid-Ohio Market that feeds 500 households weekly. When summer rolls around, locals flock to the splash pad at Linden Park and Community Center. More tennis and basketball courts accompany the pond, splash pad and giant playground with rubber flooring to soften falls. The community center has an indoor basketball court and a full fitness center accessible with a Columbus Recreation and Parks Leisure Card. The cards are free for residents and valid for three years. They also grant access to other community centers, including Douglas Community Center, which has a pool and waterslides.Magnet and alternative schools nearby
The City of Columbus offers a school choice program through lottery application and only a select number of students receive admission to the school they select. Argyle Park students who don't receive admission to their school of choice or choose to attend their zoned neighborhood schools begin learning at Duxberry Park Alternative Elementary School. The school is in the middle of the neighborhood and rated a C-minus by Niche. Mifflin Middle School is 2 miles northeast and rated a C-minus. Columbus Alternative High School received an A-minus rating from Niche and is one of the magnet schools that offers admission through an application process. The school offers career-technical education and focuses on career paths such as health science, manufacturing technologies and human services.Concerts, fairs and outdoor markets
The City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department hosts many events and leagues for city residents to come together outside. Softball and kickball leagues play at nearby parks, and annual festivals for food, music and vendors' markets fill the green spaces on weekends throughout the spring, summer and fall. Fairgrounds, a giant complex for sports, events and entertainment, is 2 miles west of Argyle Park. Touring musicians perform at the center, and major league soccer teams compete. The Ohio State Fair takes place at the fairgrounds, and visitors can rent an RV spot or campsite to enjoy the multi-week event that attracts over 1 million visitors annually.Bike lanes and bus lines
Central Transit Authority buses travel east and west along East Hudson Street and north and south along Joyce Avenue. Onramps to Interstates 670 and 71 are within 3 miles of the neighborhood, while downtown Columbus is just over 5 miles southwest. Joyce Avenue has designated bike lanes, while other streets have signs telling drivers to share the roads with bikers. The nearest hospital, Ohio State East Hospital, is 4 miles south of Argyle Park, and John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 6 miles east. Ohio State University is 3 miles west, and students and faculty of the university can commute along Hudson Street or East 17th Avenue.A local restaurant featured by Guy Fieri
Fresh Bite Express is in the neighborhood known for its burgers and catfish. More shopping and dining options are along Cleveland Avenue, less than a mile west. Guy Fieri, celebrity chef and host of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” has visited Ena's Caribbean Kitchen along Cleveland Avenue twice: once in 2017 and then again in 2023 to feature the family-owned restaurant's oxtails and jerk pasta. Save A Lot is northeast of the neighborhood, while the nearest Kroger is 3 miles west. The neighborhood is also within 5.5 miles of Easton Town Center and Lennox Town Center.
