Laurel Greene offers homebuyers access to greenspaces, ethnic cuisine and chain retail shopping. The community was primarily developed within the last 25 years. While there are condos, the Laurel Greene’s single-family homes sit on lots large enough for residents to play cornhole and host backyard cookouts. Commuters appreciate the neighborhood’s direct access to Downtown Columbus. “People are drawn to Laurel Greene for its good location, easy access to Interstate 270, good schools and moderately priced homes,” says Realtor James Roehrenbeck, who sells houses in the neighborhood with RE/MAX Town Center.

Affordable single-family homes and condos

“There’s an effort with some of the older homes to go in and spruce them up," says Realtor Martha Hunley, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Keller Williams Greater Columbus. "Most of the time, the homebuyer will do the renovations, but sometimes they’ll flip them." Most of the neighborhood was developed within the last 30 years, but homebuyers can purchase 1960s brick ranch-style houses for between $250,000 and $300,000. Assessors value the neighborhood’s 1990s condos at between $215,000 and $280,000. Contemporary-style two-story houses from the 1990s sell for between $270,000 and $330,000. Early 2000s bungalows sell for as low as $270,000, and 1980s bi levels sell for as high as $310,000. “Laurel Greene has become a first-time homebuying market because People can get in for under $300,000,” says Realtor Gregory Hart, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.

Access to Downtown Columbus

The Central Ohio Transit Authority operates bus stops on Norton Road. Most streets are lined with sidewalks, allowing residents to walk to Freedom Park and some dining options. Downtown Columbus is 13 ½ miles northeast of Laurel Greene via Interstate 270. People travel 18 ½ miles northeast to John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

Ethnic cuisine and big-box retail

There are multiple dining options along the community’s northern border. Tres Potrillos Mexican Bar and Grill serves enchiladas and margaritas. Wok Wok Kitchen serves Chinese dishes like pork fried rice and vegetable lo mein. Flyers Pizza & Subs is a hit lunch spot for its Italian dishes and classic interior. Pupuseria La Bendicion serves authentic Salvadoran dishes like chicken tortas and steak quesadillas. Patrons of the Bubble & Crepe House drink teas and smoothies. People fill prescriptions at the CVS. The community also has a Circle K convenience store and a Dollar General. Aldi is 2 ½ miles north. A Walmart is east of Interstate 270. There is a Kroger and a Lowe’s at Georgesville Square shopping mall west of Interstate 270.

Nearby public schools

Children often begin their educations at the C-plus Niche-rated Alton Hall Elementary. Norton Middle School has a C Niche rating. Teens usually move on to Westland High School, which has a C-plus Niche rating and an 84% graduation rate. The high school offers Advanced Placement classes that allow students to earn college credits.

Greenspaces ideal for recreation

The eight-acre Freedom Park is located within the community. It has a basketball court, a playground and baseball diamonds. Local sports leagues play soccer, baseball and softball at Galloway Sports Complex on the community's western border. The complex has six fields with synthetic grass. Residents spend relaxing afternoons on the fairways of Mentel Memorial Golf Course, just south of Laurel Greene. The 15-mile Camp Chase Trail runs along the community's southeast edge. An active train track runs parallel to the trail. Popular among cyclists, Camp Chase Trail is part of the 326-mile Ohio to Erie Trail.

Entertainment and activities for people of all ages

The Trap History Museum is 2 ½ miles south of Laurel Greene. The museum tells the story of humans using the devices we made to catch our food. Residents often hold weddings at Alton Farmstead, about 2 ½ miles west of Laurel Greene. Sports fans travel 15 miles northeast to Ohio Stadium to root for the Buckeyes as they take on other Big Ten Conference teams. When folks feel lucky, they travel 3 ½ miles northeast of the neighborhood to Hollywood Casino.
