Linwood
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43227
Midcentury fixer-uppers
Long stretches of winding streets pass Cape Cods, split-levels and ranch-style houses on eighth-acre lots. Mature trees shade worn sidewalks that connect the residential sections of the neighborhood from one end to the other. Driveways are common, along with attached garages and carports. Prices range from the low $100,000s for houses needing renovation to the low $300,000s for recently remodeled houses. "With the age of the homes, some have been renovated, and some need it. It's a popular place for investors to refurbish property," Lyman says.Renovations at the library's Barnett Branch
Courtright Park is an empty three-acre stretch of green space lined with shady trees. Liv Moor Park on Deshler Avenue is not quite an acre, but the pocket park does have a climbing structure, swingset and a slide. Among the one-and-a-half acres of Canini Park is a small playground and a few picnic tables. The Barnett Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library System is along Livingston Avenue on the neighborhood's northern border. As part of the library system's Aspirational Building Program, this branch is under heavy reconstruction, with plans to double its size by 2025.Get to know the teachers over ice cream at Scottwood Elementary
Scottwood Elementary School is in the center of the neighborhood, making it an easy walk for many students. Every fall before the school year begins, the school hosts an ice cream social—allowing parents to meet teachers and see classrooms. Johnson Park Middle School is just north in the neighboring community of Eastmoor. Both of these schools have a C-minus rating from Niche. Walnut Ridge High School has a C-plus and offers advanced chemistry, calculus and English literature placement courses. Bishop Hartley High School is in Linwood's northwestern corner. This private institution has an A rating from Niche, which ranks it among the top 20 Catholic high schools in Ohio.Five miles from downtown Columbus
Though sidewalks connect the streets of Linwood, cars are necessary for most residents. The Central Ohio Transit Authority has a bus system throughout Franklin County, with local stops at Courtright Road and Livingston Avenue. Interstate 70 provides easy access to downtown Columbus, 7 miles northwest. Ohio State East Hospital is less than 5 miles northwest, while John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 5 miles north.Po'boys and gumbo at Jessie Mae's
Jessie Mae's Southern Creole Cuisine is a casual café that serves an authentic selection of Creole dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition to gumbo and po'boys, Jessie offers a selection of locally made cold-pressed juices. TAT Ristorante de Famiglia has been plating classic Italian favorites with homemade pasta since opening in 1929. The nearby Eastpoint Centre and Plaza East shopping centers have retail options and services, including an African market and laundromat. Save A Lot is in the neighborhood's northwest corner.Important to know
