Northcrest
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43220
Townhouses and condos are primary options in Northcrest
Townhouse and condo communities dominate the housing market in Northcrest, though there are some three- to four-bedroom ranch homes, colonials and split-levels near Northcrest Park. Those are the highest-priced options, ranging from $355,000 to $405,000. Spacious lawns are dotted with mature trees and link to sidewalks that locals stroll to explore the neighborhood and its surrounding amenities. For those who would rather avoid the upkeep of having larger yards, townhouses and condos are available for anywhere from $120,000 to $225,000. “It all depends on how many updates have been made to the interior and exterior because most of the condos and townhouses there were built in the 1970s,” says Gullett. These small communities also offer additional amenities to residents, including private patios, reserved parking, and swimming pools.Namesake park offers outdoor respite
At the heart of Northcrest, its namesake park is within walking distance of many homes and spans more than 18 acres. The basketball and tennis courts make Northcrest Park a popular spot during the warmer months. There’s also a playground where kids can burn off some energy. Walking paths loop around the amenities and open fields so locals have a place to stretch their legs. Nearby Thomson Park and Sunny Park also offer a spot to get outdoors. The parks host events like Upper Arlington’s annual Summer Celebration, Music in the Parks concert series and Spring Fling Festival.Plans in the works to rebuild Columbus City Schools
The neighborhood is zoned for the Columbus City School District, and students begin their education at Winterset Elementary School, which gets a C-plus rating from Niche. Plans are in the works to build a new school on the current campus site as part of a nearly $300 million project proposed by Columbus City schools. Winterset is one of five schools involved in the project. Students later filter into C-minus-rated Ridgeview Middle School. Students from across the city attend Centennial High School because it is part of the district’s choice lottery program. It also earned a B rating from Niche. During football season, locals look forward to the Battle for the Olentangy against rival Whetstone High School. The game is named for the Olentangy River, which separates the two schools. Two major highways connect to downtown Columbus
Nestled about halfway between Routes 33 and 315, locals living in Northcrest can connect to the nearby cities. The neighborhood is roughly 4 miles from OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and The Ohio State University’s campus. Locals can join more than 100,000 other fans to catch the Buckeyes in action at Ohio Stadium. Northcrest is also equidistant from the locally owned shops and restaurants in Upper Arlington and Dublin. All the action in downtown Columbus sits roughly 10.5 miles south of Northcrest. Public transit is also available to residents, with several COTA bus stops along Dierker, Bethel and Henderson roads. Those looking to travel outside the city can catch a flight at John Glenn International Airport, about 14 miles southeast.Local eateries with historic ties and international flair
Craft beer lovers can grab a pint and sit on the outdoor patio at Somewhere In Particular Brewing, a local watering hole with historic ties. The brewery occupies the Joseph Henderson House, an 1800s farmhouse listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties. It’s one of the oldest buildings still standing in Northwest Columbus. Tucked in the neighborhood’s southern end is a small shopping center where locals can pick up Chinese takeout at Xin Wei Kitchen or shop for specialty goods at Sunrise Asian Super Market. The shopping complex sits just off Henderson Road, flanked by more local eateries like Cuco’s Taqueria, a cozy cantina serving authentic Mexican cuisine. While most of these shops and restaurants are within walking distance, locals will have to drive nearly 2 miles to find larger chains like ALDI and Walmart, which line Bethel Road.
