Covington offers peaceful rural living in Wyoming County
Covington is a small rural community in Wyoming County with few businesses or parks, but plenty of space for acreage. Properties are spread out across forested landscapes, but surrounding villages provide a sense of close-knit community. “Even though they might not be able to see their neighbor next to them, when they go into the town, they’re likely to see people they know,” says Charles Flynn, an associate real estate broker with more than 10 years of experience. “It’s got that sense of community.”
A wide range of home styles on spacious wooded lots
Homes are scattered along country roads, including historic 19th-century properties along with relatively newer homes from the mid- to late-20th century. Farmhouses, bi-levels and ranch-style homes are all common, typically with wide front porches and vinyl siding. Lot sizes start at a quarter-acre, with some exceeding 3 acres. Prices often depend on home and lot size, ranging from $120,000 to $350,000. Some residences are reliant on private utilities. “There’s a good chance that publicly connected water will be available,” Flynn says. “The water districts have expanded over the last 10 years. Most rural properties still use a septic system for waste disposal, but that’s very common and nothing to be nervous about.”
Restaurants in nearby villages and lots of local farm stands
BW’s Restaurant is the nearest dining option, located on the Davis Countryside Meadows golf course and serves steak, sandwiches and other American fare. More restaurant options are available in neighboring towns. Silverlake Family Restaurant is a popular diner-style spot in Warsaw, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Countryside Produce & Bulk Foods is one of many produce markets and farm stands throughout the region. Chain grocery stores like Walmart are about 10 miles away.
Pavilion Central School District serves much of the community
Most of the community is zoned for Pavilion Central School District, which earns a C-plus rating from Niche. D. B. Bunce Elementary and Pavilion Junior/Senior High both earn a C-plus as well. Athletic programs at the high school level include soccer, volleyball, and cross-country.
Local racing venue and nature reserves across the surrounding region
Though the area doesn’t have any public parks, locals can visit Pavilion MX for motocross racing events. West of Covington, the Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area has acres of land for hunting, trapping and freshwater fishing along Little Tonawanda Creek. The area also has miles of multiuse trails available for hiking and biking. Silver Lake State Park is about 10 miles south on the banks of its namesake lake, popular for boating and ice fishing in the winter. Davis Countryside Meadows has an 18-hole golf course open to the public.
Several villages in a short distance, about 40 miles from Rochester
State routes 19 and 63 are the main roadways through the area. There are several village centers within 10 miles, including Warsaw, Perry and Geneseo. Rochester and Fredrick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport are under 40 miles away. Wyoming County Community Health System is the nearest hospital, about 10 miles away.
Locals get together for the annual AppleUmpkin Festival
The nearby village of Wyoming has hosted the annual AppleUmpkin Festival every September since 1986. The arts and crafts fair includes lots of vendors and live entertainment, drawing visitors from many surrounding communities.
