With one store in town and a handful of street lights, Westhampton is a quintessential small town. "We have Outlook Farm, the farm store and apple orchard," says Linda Webster, a realtor with Coldwell Banker Community REALTORS, "We don't have a gas station or grocery stores."

Webster, who grew up in Westhampton, says the 1600-person town is known as a bedroom community to nearby Northampton. Westhampton has grown as an appealing choice for those looking to get out of the city but maintain some proximity to its attractions. In the last 10 years," Webster says, "It's become a really desirable place to live because we're 10 minutes from North Hampton, which is a big cultural mecca."

Webster says that inventory in Westhampton is scarce, and houses only last about a week on the market thanks to the town's proximity to Northampton, paired with its small-town atmosphere. Many homes in town sell for $500,000, which will get you over 10 acres of land, four bedrooms and two bathrooms, but some houses in town can climb to nearly $900,000 for certain properties with horse stables and about 20 acres of property.

Westhampton has a distinct identity from the city and surrounding towns, and Webster says it reminds her of an idyllic small town from the 1950s like you might find in the Andy Griffith Show. "What makes our town unique," Webster says, "Is that it's kind of like Mayberry. If you need a cup of sugar, you can go visit your neighbors and get a cup of sugar. We're a community where we all look out for each other. We all know each other. It's a lot of neighbors helping neighbors."

Webster says that in mid-March of 2023, the power went out across town. While it was only out for about a day, residents with generators on their property invited their neighbors over to eat dinner, stay warm, and enjoy the tight-knit community and friendship Westhampton offers its residents.

"It's the most welcoming community of people," Webster says. "It's a beautiful place and such a friendly community.

Steve's Sugar Shack is a local delight that's only open for a few months a year, but when the doors open, you won't want to skip the shack's breakfast food, especially the pancakes with maple syrup. "Steve's Sugar Shack is one of my favorite places," Webster says, "It's only open during sugar season, but they have great pancakes and everyone knows the owners. They're pillars in the community that would give you the shirt off their back." The Westhampton Public Library is known as a community gathering spot. The town raised money to build the library, and its staff regularly hosts small musical acts on the weekends. There is also a food bank in the basement.

The area's youngest learners can expect to attend Westhampton Elementary School, which is the no. 1 elementary school in Springfield according to Niche and has a student-teacher ratio of 6 to 1. Students wrap up their secondary educational journey at Hampshire Regional High School, which has a B rating on Niche and is known for its excellent clubs, activities, teachers, academics, and college prep.

Westhampton also has access to plenty of natural spaces to go hiking or just enjoy nature through the conservation areas in a town like the Mass Audubon's Lynes Woods Wildlife Sanctuary and Greenberg Family Conservation Area.

A cozy community brimming with friendly people, Westhampton is ideal for a homebuyer looking to get out of the city and get into a comfortable community.

If you weren't born here, good luck fitting in. The town has a strong sense of community for those in the church or for those who have homesteads here. All "newcomers" (really, within the last fifty some odd years) will stay newcomers.
