Strachauer Park offers residents a slice of suburbia with plenty of outdoor experiences and proximity to Minneapolis for work and play. The area offers midcentury, ranch-style homes ranging from $450,000 to $650,000 with paved driveways and tall, leafy trees. Grassy, manicured yards greet residents as they walk into these homes. “In Edina, homes are not as expensive as surrounding areas but there are a lot of new builds,” says Sally English, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty who has been selling homes for seven years and has lived in the area her whole life. There are newly constructed, contemporary-style homes in the area ranging from $1 million to $1.8 million.

The neighborhood belongs to the Edina Public School District, which boasts an A-plus from Niche. Kids can attend Cornelia Elementary School, which has an A from Niche and ranks in the top 15 for best public elementary schools in Minnesota. They can advance to Southview Middle School, which also has an A from Niche and is ranked in the top 20 for best public middle school teachers in Minnesota. Children may move on to Edina High School, which has an A-plus from Niche and ranks in the top 25 for best high schools for athletes in Minnesota. The school also has a performing arts center, where students can explore dance and theatre.

After a long workweek, let loose with a furry friend at the off-leash grassy area at Strachauer Park, where a game of soccer or football can also be played. Nature enthusiasts can see wildlife like deer, birds and foxes and take in scenic lakefront views while boating or fishing through Strachauer Lake, which is right next to the park. Both landmarks are named after George Strachauer, a local conservationist that played a big role in creating the spaces in the 1970s. Pamela Park is another green space located near the area, offering a 1-mile trail to walk, run or hike. The park also has a separate 62-acre turf field for those interested in sports training. In the winter, residents can come out to this park to skate on the ice-skating rink.

If residents prefer to use public transportation, the Metro Transit bus can get to school or work. Many people work at the hospital nearby, M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital. “Strachauer Park is close to a hospital which gives it a huge medical community,” says English. “There are world-class physicians in the area.” People may ride the bus 45 minutes to central Minneapolis for work or to one of the art museums the area has to offer.

For meals and everyday items throughout the week, visit Cub Foods or Target Grocery, which are both less than 2 miles from the neighborhood. When cooking meals feels tedious, head to Snuffy’s Malt Shop, a retro-style diner that specializes in burgers, fries and shakes. Afterward, enjoy a drink in the pub atmosphere at Town Hall Station. On a weekend morning, grab a nice cup of joe and a fresh pastry at Rustica Bakery and Café. Get some shopping done at Southdale Center, a shopping mall with over 100 stores including Coach, Sephora and Michael Kors, then catch a movie at the AMC Theatre. Enjoy suburban living in Strachauer Park with quick access to Minneapolis.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
