Sherwood Forest is in southern Edmonds, next to Woodway

Sherwood Forest is in south Edmonds, a Snohomish County city of about 42,000. The neighborhood has on-brand street names like Robin Hood Drive, Friar Tuck Lane and Robbers Roost Road. The neighborhood is several miles from downtown Edmonds and the Puget Sound. Seattle is about 15 miles to the south. "You're backing up to Woodway, the most expensive area around Edmonds so far. The area hugs around what used to be the old Woodway High School. It's been called Woodway Campus and a bunch of things," says Anne-lise Burgess, a broker with Reece Home, a team of Keller Williams North Seattle.

Homes including ramblers, split-levels and contemporaries

Development of the area over the decades resulted in different subdivisions. "Forest Glen, a subdivision from the 1950s is in this area. But more homes have been built around it," says Kelsey Foster, the communications strategist/public information officer for the City of Edmonds. The area is also known for Hickman Park, a 1980s development.

Among the 1950s through '80s homes are ramblers and split-levels. Contemporaries and traditionals are most common from the 1990s through the 2020s. Single-family homes are typically about $620,000 to $1.3 million, with size, condition and age accounting for the wide range. Some of the newest construction is close to $2 million. The few condos in the area are $380,000 to $400,000.

Areas of the neighborhood where there could potentially be flooding are along 100th Avenue, Edmonds Way and Deer Drive, near Deer Creek.

The CAP Index Crime Score in Sherwood Forest is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

Hickman Park, a swim and tennis club and a nearby botanic garden

Hickman Park has a play area, an athletic court and a trail with exercise stations. Close by is the Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club, a seasonal, member-owned facility with about 250 families on its roster. Swimming and tennis teams and social activities are among the perks.

To the west is a beach at Point Wells in Woodway. South of Sherwood Forest, the public Kruckeberg Botanic Garden features native and exotic plants. The garden hosts events like the Summer Solstice Picnic, a fall plant sale and workshops.

Students may attend Edmonds School District schools

Public schools include Sherwood Elementary School and College Place Middle School, each earning a B grade from Niche. Edmonds-Woodway High School receives an A-minus. Edmonds School District high school students are eligible to participate in Edmonds-Woodway's Architecture/CAD Career and Technical Education program. Scriber Lake High School, an alternative learning school with a C-plus from Niche, is located at the former Woodway High campus on 100th Avenue.Students can apply to other district schools, such as Mountlake Terrace High School for the Carpentry Career and Technical Education program and Lynnwood High School for its Applied Engineering & Manufacturing Career and Technical Education program. Edmonds Heights K-12 mixes campus-based and in-home learning through the Family Partnership Program.

Events such as the Edmonds Arts Festival and An Edmonds Kind of 4th

Top events in the city include the Edmonds Arts Festival in June and An Edmonds Kind of 4th in July. "The 4th of July has a kids' parade at the forefront of the parade. Parents are out there clapping and cheering. It's really sweet," Foster says. The Edmonds Block Party is one of the newest community celebrations, introduced for August of 2025. In the fall, PorchFest Edmonds hosts local musicians at venues like homes and small businesses.

Buses, a ferry, Amtrak and commuter rail are available

Sherwood Forest is in close to two highways: state Route 104, which is Edmonds Way in the city, and is to the north, and state Route 99, to the east. Some residential pockets have sidewalks. Community Transit buses stop along roads like 100th Avenue West and Edmonds Way. A couple miles to the northwest, Edmonds Way has dedicated lanes for the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry, a well-used transportation link to the Olympic Peninsula. Edmonds Station downtown has Amtrak trains and Sound Transit's N Line, a commuter rail line from Everett to Seattle.

Shops in the Village at Westgate, Firdale Village and downtown

To the north is the Village at Westgate, a mixed-use commercial/residential development. Restaurants in the area include Ono Poke, which specializes in Hawaiian cuisine made with organic produce and fresh, sustainable seafood. According to Foster, it's well-known as a top poke place in the Seattle area. Other options include Herfy's Burgers and Ivar's Seafood Bar. There are drug stores, banks, and grocers, such as QFC and PCC Community Markets Edmonds Co-op. To the south is Fridale Village, an area known for its eclectic shopping plaza. "Firdale kind of butts up to Highway 99. It's loosely known as the Highway 99 area or neighborhood, but that's not an official name," Foster says. Firdale Village Shopping Plaza has independently owned businesses, including the Aquarium Co-op and feline and canine pet grooming options: Salon Meow and Muddy Pawz. Often, La Casa de Amigos food truck will be here serving Honduran cuisine. Downtown Edmonds has been named Washington's first certified Creative District. In addition to stores and places to eat, downtown features murals, galleries, the Edmonds Center for the Arts, the Cascadia Art Museum and the historical Edmonds Theater.
