Enon offers small-town ambiance and easy access to Springfield
Enon is a small village in the southwest Springfield suburbs. Residents are also within easy commuting distance of both central Dayton and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. For many years, the village was probably best known as the headquarters of the Speedway gas station and convenience store chain. However, following its acquisition by Marathon, the company relocated its headquarters to Texas in 2021. “It’s definitely the sort of place where everybody knows everybody,” says Realtor and lifelong area resident Theresa Jennings of Re/Max Victory. “There’s a real sense of community. People who move in here hardly ever move out.”
A large selection of midcentury and contemporary homes
Midcentury ranch-style homes make up most of the local inventory in Enon, but there are also a number of larger contemporary homes scattered around the community. Homes sell for anywhere from $180,000 to $430,000. Yards in the area are more spacious than in neighboring towns like Fairborn. “You get more room to stretch your legs than a lot of places,” says Jennings. “But it’s still easy to get to town whenever you want.”
Nice local parks and Mad River fishing
There are 3 well-maintained public parks spaced evenly around the community: Porter Park, Galloway Park and Enon Park. All 3 feature playgrounds and playing fields. The Mad River runs just north of town, and is a popular spot for boating and fishing. Enon Beach Recreation Park sits on the river’s south bank and offers camping, fishing and river access. Additional nearby attractions include Brandeberry Winery and George Rogers Clark Park just north of Enon, which offers hiking trails and a bit of history.
Dayton Springfield Road retail
Retail and dining in Enon is limited, and is mostly found along Dayton Springfield Road, the community’s major thoroughfare. The road is home to the local IGA supermarket, along with a couple of pharmacies and a few local shops. It also contains pretty much the entirety of the local dining scene, including highly rated spots like The Last Queen restaurant and the El Buen Taco food truck. For additional shopping and dining, locals generally head to nearby Springfield.
Greenon Public Schools
Enon is part of the Greenon Local School District, which has a C-minus grade on Niche. Greenon Elementary School has a C-plus, while both Greenon Middle School and Greenon High both have C ratings. Greenon High School offers a College Credit Plus program through Clark State University in Springfield and Sinclair Community College in Dayton.
The Annual Apple Butter Festival
Enon’s event schedule is relatively limited, but the town does put on an Apple Butter Festival every October. The festival, which has been going on for over 40 years, is put on by the Enon Community Historical Society and usually draws around 10,000 people to the area.
Interstate 70 makes for simple commuting
Dayton Springfield Road and Enon Road are the main roads in town, connecting to nearby communities like Fairborn. Interstate 70 passes just north of town, offering easy commuting to Springfield and Dayton. It’s an 8-mile drive from Enon to central Springfield, while Downtown Dayton and Dayton International Airport are both around 20 miles away by car. Nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a major employer in the community, is a roughly 6-mile drive. There’s no bus service in the area, so locals generally rely on cars to get around.
