A small city on the shores of scenic Lake Eerie
Just under 12 miles northeast of downtown Cleveland, the city of Euclid has held the Arbor Day Foundation’s “Tree City USA” designation for more than 30 years running. Incorporated in 1930, this small city holds numerous public parks, unique museums and a large inventory of homes for less than $200,000. “Lake access used to be privatized, so Euclid’s primary goal is lakefront access for all,” says Christina Vazquez, communications manager for the City of Euclid. “We’re now in Stage 3 and have a nice fishing pier and lakefront trail.” The city continues to invest in improvements, and Vazquez says they hope to eventually build a beach house where residents can rent paddleboats and other watercraft.

Euclid Community Parks and Recreation maintains 28 green spaces across the city. Parks host amenities like baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, a community garden, an ice rink and more. The ice rink—the CE Orr Ice Arena—attracts roughly 150,000 visitors yearly, says Vazquez, and hosts annual events like the Celebrate Skating ice skating competition and the Food Truck Feast, which brings live music and local food trucks to the area. In addition to parks, the city’s parks and recreation department manages the Lakefront Community Center and the Briardale Greens Golf Course, the latter of which was named Facility of the Year at the Troon/Indigo Sports Regional Conference. There is also an expanding system of trails, which Vazquez says will eventually connect some of the city’s parks. “The Euclid Creek Reservation is an urban oasis where a 5-mile trail runs past waterfalls, rock formations and all kinds of wildlife,” Vazquez says. “Connectors are in the works to be able to ride all the way to Euclid Beach Park.”

Shore Cultural Centre and local options to shop and dine
Euclid’s downtown district is home to shopping staples like Dave’s Grocery and ALDI, alongside a variety of breweries, boutique shops and restaurants. “Our dining is diverse, says Vazquez. “We have everything from family-owned Mama Catena’s to Jamaican food at Irie.” The historic Shore Cultural Centre is home to the Euclid Symphony Orchestra and brings movies and community theater to the downtown district. The venue also gives residents a place for annual festivities like the city’s annual STEAMFest, an exhibition for technology demonstrations and science shows. Euclid Avenue is another commercial corridor and gives residents a direct route into downtown Cleveland, home to venues where the Browns, Cavaliers and Guardians play.

A mix of housing styles with a wide price range
Euclid homes were built primarily between the 1940s and 1990s, though new construction is popping up around the city. Home styles reflect this mix of ages, with Tudors and bungalows making up much of the housing stock and colonial revivals offering variety from numerous decades. "It's a diverse city with great views,” says Brian Evans, Realtor with eXp Realty. “And for under $200,000, you can get a nice house." Adding to the mix, the city holds a notable inventory of condos and townhomes, which typically range in price from $45,000 to $90,000. Single-family homes normally sell between $60,000 and $330,000.
Tudor-style homes are a prominent and appealing feature of Euclid's architectural landscape, adding charm and character to the community.

Public transit, major throughways and Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital
Vazquez says the city’s public transportation network is a coveted amenity among residents. “A lot of our employees at City Hall use the GCRTA bus system,” she says. To encourage biking and walking to work, the city continues to expand its offering of bike lanes, medians and crosswalks. To reach downtown Cleveland, drivers have options including Euclid Avenue and Interstate 90, the latter of which also takes them west to Chicago and east to Buffalo. Lakeshore Boulevard provides another path into Cleveland and holds Euclid’s only hospital, the Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital. Travelers aiming for far-away destinations can catch a flight at Ohio’s largest airport, Cleveland Hopkins International, roughly 25 miles southwest of Euclid.
Lower crime than Cleveland, but just as cold
The latest data from the FBI indicates that Euclid's crime rates are lower than those of the rest of Ohio and the United States overall. More salient risks for residents include cold winters and lake-effect snow. “The closer you get to the lake, the more wind you feel, especially in the winter,” Evans says. “But the houses are so well-insulated.”
