Harlow
Two malls and more than five grocery options
Harlow is ripe with shopping and dining, bordered by two major shopping centers on either side. “Oakway Center is where Trader Joe’s is, and that’s the only Trader Joe’s in Eugene,” says Steve Wickham, a broker with Team Wickham of United Real Estate. The shopping plaza also has a Nordstrom Rack, Salt & Straw—one of Wickham’s favorite ice cream shops—and Sabai, an award-winning restaurant that serves Pacific Rim cuisine. Hawaiian Time offers a more casual experience with authentic Hawaiian lunches, while Buddy’s Diner serves classic American breakfast and burgers in a retro setting.Residents have numerous grocery options along Coburg Road; Safeway and Market of Choice are less than a mile and a half away from the Oakway Center, while Costco Wholesale and WinCo Foods are farther north. On the other side of the neighborhood, The Shoppes at Gateway shopping plaza includes Cabela’s, Target, Marshalls and Ulta Beauty, and locals can catch a movie at the Cinemark theater next door.
Live music and football games near the Willamette River
The 373-acre Alton Baker Park, on the banks of the Willamette River, anchors the Harlow neighborhood. A few of the park's amenities include a designated dog park, a disc golf course, a boat ramp and the Emerald Valley BMX park, as well as Pre’s Trail, named after University of Oregon runner, Steve Prefontaine, who competed in the 1972 Olympics. Bike paths weave through the park too, following two bridges across the river and connecting to the Ruth Bascom Bike Path that runs through downtown and the University of Oregon campus. Live music reverberates from the Cuthbert Amphitheater, though nearby Autzen Stadium may be considered the real center of entertainment in the neighborhood. Home to the Oregon Ducks, the stadium fills with green- and yellow-clad fans during football games, with the university’s baseball and soccer fields also nearby. Several smaller green spaces and pocket parks dot the neighborhood too, like Striker Field Park, which has tennis courts, a sand pit, a summer “spray play” area and a small amphitheater.Art and the Vineyard in Alton Baker Park
Art and the Vineyard is a three-day festival in July centered around a wine court with Oregon varietals and over 90 artist booths, showcasing mediums from painting and photography to jewelry and ceramics. The festival is held in Alton Baker Park, where musicians perform every day of the event and attendees can recharge in the international food court and beer garden.Harlow ranch-style homes and new traditional estates
Though more than half of Harlow residents are renters, the neighborhood has a wide range of home prices. Ranch-style homes and single-story houses built between the 1950s and 1980s cost between $350,000 and $450,000, while larger, new traditional homes with one or two levels built throughout the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s cost between $500,000 and $680,000. Homes constructed in the late 1990s and 2000s include new traditional estates with Craftsman-inspired designs that fetch between $700,000 and $860,000, with some belonging to one of several homeowners associations. Condos usually come with one bedroom, costing between $200,000 and $350,000, while two- or three-bedroom townhouses can sell for between $300,000 and $450,000.University courses in high school through Duck Link
Children in Harlow may begin their education at Holt Elementary School, which earns a B-minus grade from Niche. Monroe Middle School receives a B grade. Both schools are located in the neighborhood. Sheldon High School receives a B-plus and provides multiple ways to earn college credit, from Advanced Placement exams and an International Baccalaureate Diploma to Duck Link, a program that allows juniors and seniors to register for University of Oregon classes.Bike-friendly roads and buses in Lane Transit District
Harlow is flanked by Interstate 5 on the east and Coburg Road on the west, both major thoroughfares in the city with shopping centers and grocery stores. Interstate 5 leads north to Salem and Portland, while Coburg Road connects Harlow to downtown Eugene in the south. Alternatively, drivers can use Interstate 105 to get downtown. The Lane Transit District has several bus stops throughout the neighborhood on routes that run throughout the day, and with Eugene’s extensive bike path system, all buses are equipped with bike racks.
