The rumble of trains reverberates through Trainsong
The steady chug of the engines that make their way into the Union Pacific Rail Yard echoes on one side of Trainsong, while on the other side, cars hum on Oregon state Route 99—occasionally stopping by the several small neighborhood businesses that line it. “It only takes a month or two before you don’t notice the noise anymore,” says Jennifer Stoner, a real estate broker with Hybrid Realty. “You’re getting a house with a yard and a little bit of space. You can deal with the trains.” Additionally, the neighborhood is only about 3 miles from downtown Eugene.

Homes in varying shades of vinyl siding with subtle Craftsman details sit back from their small gravel parking spaces. Though the average home price in Trainsong is around $339,000, compared to the $502,000 average across the Eugene metro area, lots in the neighborhood are often large enough to accommodate workshops, accessory dwelling lots and recreational vehicle parking, sizing up to around a quarter of an acre.

Trainsong Park is under EPA remediation
Trainsong Park lies just north of the main residential cluster of the neighborhood. The green space has a skate park, a playground and a ball field, though part of the park has been closed since April 2022 due to harmful chemicals called dioxins found in its soil. Since then, the Environmental Protection Agency has granted the City of Eugene $1.526 million for the park’s soil remediation. Several other green spaces surround the community as well, including Walnut Grove Park, where benches overlook a fishing pond from a soft hiking trail. A playground, a wading pool, a sand pit and another skatepark are enclosed by towering evergreen trees at nearby Emerald Park.
