Quieter Everett suburb with high community engagement
When Tom Norcott moved to the Harborview-Seahurst-Glenhaven neighborhood, he was impressed by the neighborhood’s generosity and picturesque views. “The neighborhood and the neighbors are a huge attraction,” says Norcott, chairman of the Harborview-Seahurst-Glenhaven neighborhood association. “Another reason I moved here is the views of Puget Sound. We can get to watch the sunset over the Olympic Mountains. To the south, we see the Mukilteo ferry line. To the north, we see Mount Baker.” The neighborhood tucked 4 miles west of Downtown Everett is more isolated from the hustle and bustle happenings, requiring a car to get around. The neighborhood has a mix of demographics, from retirees to families. However, there are many opportunities to meet everyone because of the area’s events. “We gather together and break bread with each other and get to know each other,” Norcott says. “It’s fun. It’s free, and there’s food.”

Luxury homes that view Mt.Rainier and Possession Sound
The neighborhood is an area of mostly single-family houses. Many homes were built later in the 20th century, and their styles varied. “We’re kind of a legacy for the city,” Norcott says. “We don’t have big developments within the area. These are houses built in the last 60s to 70 years that are well cared for.” Ramblers are one popular style, with prices ranging from $535,000 for smaller three-bedrooms to $850,000 for four-bedrooms. Craftsman and Pacific Northwest Contemporary are also popular styles. Craftsman homes start at around $680,000 and peak over $1.25 million for larger properties towards the water. Contemporaries can range from $780,000 to over $1.79 million for larger five-bedroom homes. Condos sit along the neighborhood’s southwest end, costing $385,000 for under 1,000 square feet and $425,000 for larger interiors.

Howarth Park and Harborview Park for outdoor recreation
Most outdoor recreation takes place at the two city parks on the neighborhood’s edge. Harborview Park is a smaller 8-acre park where folks often walk the trail as the sun sets on the Sound. “Sometimes you see people getting married in Harborview because of those views,” Norcott says. Howarth Park is the larger one of the two and provides beach access. “People are often beach walking or whale watching,” Norcott says. “The Howarth Park is open for dogs, so they have a dog section that’s a big deal.” Folks engage in a competitive game on the tennis courts. Deer Park is a hidden neighborhood park that draws crowds for its playground.

A quick drive to various shops and dining
Harborview-Seahurst-Glenhaven is a mix of residential and industrial space; therefore, no stores or restaurants are in the neighborhood. Most residents would visit the Everett Mall, Downtown Everett or Olde Town Mukilteo. Ivars in Mukilteo is popular for fresh seafood and unmatched views of Puget Sound. Off Evergreen Way is the Totem Family Dinner, a decades-long city staple diner with breakfast and lunch favorites. Located 4 miles south, the mall has over 40 restaurants and retail shops, including Ulta Beauty, Old Navy and Torrid.

Smaller annual events
Norcott says the neighborhood puts on three annual events together. The first is the annual Easter Egg Hunt and scramble. In August, community members gather in Howarth Park for National Night Out Against Crime, where there’s a picnic and fun interactions with law enforcement. Wrapping up the year is the annual holiday potluck at the fire station. “That’s a small gathering of 25 to 30 people, and we sing carols,” Norcott says.
Car-dependent area with access with nearby Sounder stops
Getting around the area will require a car. Commuters to Seattle can drive up Interstate 5 or I-5. From there, it’s a 27-mile drive. The Mukilteo Station is 3 miles west, where the Sounder train provides two rides southbound to Everett and northbound to Seattle. The Everett Train Station, 4 miles east, also provides Amtrak services to British Columbia, Portland and Chicago.
