Everett's second oldest neighborhood
As the second oldest neighborhood in Everett, Port Gardner is the tale of old and new. Its residential area offers a variety of older homes and newer properties with trendy colors. While its thriving cultural scene showcases classic theatre performances and modern art. “Port Gardner is closer to the waterfront and downtown Everett. It’s mainly a housing neighborhood,” says Colleen Thorsen, a Seattle native and realtor with John L. Scott who specializes in Everett, Snohomish and Island counties.
Bordered by restaurant heavy Hewitt Avenue
Hewitt Avenue provides access to several restaurants and shopping. Considered the city’s downtown area, it’s home to over 600 businesses, a third of which are dedicated to retail and restaurants. Some shops have a modern feel, with their storefronts matching the glass high rises, while others, like the Vintage Café, align with the city’s early 20th-century roots. The vibrant streets feature several coffee shops as well as Thai, Vietnamese and American restaurants. Shoppers can find several comic books and antique shops. Off Colby Avenue, Caper + Olives provides outdoor seating and fresh Italian meals. Much of downtown’s bars remain open until 2 a.m. The Colby Club specializes in mixology and serves Instagram-worthy cocktails, while Tony V’s Garage is a go-to for live music and comedy shows. Grocery hauls can be done at Sno-Isle Food Co-op or at the Everett Farmers Market, which is open on Sundays from May until October.

Close to Port Gardner, Downtown Everett boasts many museums and theatres. The Imagine Children’s Museum has over a dozen hands-on exhibits to play and learn. Local artistry is showcased at the Schack Art Center, while the Historic Everett Theatre has been providing entertainment in the area since 1901. Sports are popular in the area. “Funko Field is home to the minor league, Everett AquaSox,” Thorsen says. “It’s a neighborhood-friendly park to see baseball. It’s inexpensive, seating is easy, and you’re right next to the action. It’s a fun thing to do, and people love it in that area.” Along with the Everett AquaSox baseball team, the city is also home to the Everett Silvertips, a junior ice hockey team that plays at the Angel of the Winds Arena from September to March. The Washington Wolfpack celebrated their inaugural season in 2024.

Historic bungalows and newer townhouses and condos
The residential area is divided by Rucker Avenue, with single-family homes taking up one half while condos and townhouses make up the other. “That neighborhood has more older homes. Some of these were built in the 50s through the 70s. These are mostly on the west side of Rucker Ave,” Thorsen says. “When you get east of Rucker, there’s more affordable housing and investment properties.” Single-family styles vary from early 20th-century bungalows to Craftsman and newer Contemporaries. Prices range from $400,000 to $1.6 million. Condos range from $250,000 to $430,000 for a two-bedroom. Townhouses are situated toward the Snohomish River; prices range from $430,000 to $750,000.
