A Kalispell suburb surrounded by lakes, rivers and mountains

Evergreen is a suburb of Kalispell in northwest Montana that is surrounded by spectacular outdoor attractions. The community serves as a center for nearby tourist attractions, making tourism a major industry. The area has experienced growth since the COVID pandemic. “We have several million visitors come to Glacier National Park every year,” says Ben Dorrington, Assistant Executive Director of the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce. “Evergreen is the last hub before you get to the national park. In the winter, it’s Whitefish Mountain Resort, which is one of the top ten ski resorts in the United States. Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. So, we’re just in an unbelievable spot, and that’s why everybody wants to move here.”

Recreation at Flathead River, Flathead Lake and points in between

Montana is known for its fly-fishing, which was famously portrayed by Robert Redford in his film, “A River Runs Through It.” The Flathead River on Evergreen’s eastern border is clear, cold and scenic, providing the iconic angler experience. A dozen species of fish run in the Whitefish River, including Chinook salmon and smallmouth bass. The rivers provide tubing and rafting opportunities as well. In town, the Village Greens Golf Course is an 18-hole course with mountain views. Evergreen has a handful of community parks with picnic tables and green space, and in Kalispell, there are bigger parks with sports facilities and playgrounds. The Rocky Mountain Hi Campground, with tent sites and RV hookups, is just inside Evergreen’s northern border, and there are several more campgrounds along the Flathead River and south of Evergreen. Wayfarers/Flathead Lake State Park, 21 miles away, provides boating opportunities from kayaks to sailboats to karaoke cruises.
