Texas' "most beautiful town square"
The city of Georgetown is home to what’s been called the most beautiful town square in Texas. Those who live in its River Bend neighborhood enjoy being situated in this thriving area, close to local eateries, shopping and scenic parks.
Ranch-style homes border the San Gabriel River
River Bend started its development in the mid-1970s and early 1980s, continuing into the early 2000s. With the San Gabriel River right there, many homes have waterfront views and mature trees surrounding residential streets. Different subdivisions comprise the area, offering ranch-style homes, Craftsman-style bungalows, Tudor-revival homes, midcentury modern homes, townhomes and low-rise condominiums. Most homes in the area are single-story, though occasional two-story homes exist. Residents enjoy amenities such as fitness centers, playgrounds, swimming pools and, at the Saddle Creek subdivision, an onsite disc golf course. Home prices in the area range from $150,000 to $2 million.
Most homes in River Bend are medium-sized and one story with large yards.
Some areas of River Bend have large homes with steep gabled roofs.

Fishing and disc golf in local parks
Several green spaces surround River Bend, including parks, trails and greenways. Locals can escape the Texan heat at Blue Hole Park’s lagoon, which sits at the south fork of the San Gabriel River. In addition to the swimming hole, the park offers trails, picnic areas and ample opportunities to fish. Residents are right next to San Gabriel Park, so named due to the river flowing through it. The park was designated a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society in 2012 due to its historical prominence within the community and the natural respite it provides. 200-year-old oak trees provide shade for picnics and the park offers fields for soccer, football, lacrosse and baseball games. Locals can hike or bike the park’s trails that connect to Blue Hole Park, Rivery Park and Chautauqua Park and lead all the way to Lake Georgetown. Visitors can also play at the park’s nine-hole disc golf course. Next to the park is Georgetown Recreation Center, a 65,000-square-foot facility with rooms for wellness programs, kid and teen activities, classes and more. There’s a fitness room stocked with cardio and weight-training machines, multisport gymnasiums, an aerobics room, indoor cycling, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, an indoor running track, racquetball courts, sand volleyball and beyond. Any kind of athlete has a way to practice, train and play at the rec center. Also nearby is Rivery Park, known for its large tree house, fishing pond and disc golf. Emerald Springs Park is close at hand and offers playscapes and baseball fields.
Bowling lanes and fried comfort foods
For fun indoors locals flock to Mel’s Lone Star Lanes, where they can bowl at any of the 40 lanes, try to beat the top scores at the arcade, shoot pool and play shuffleboard. There’s also the nearby Film Alley movie theater, where residents can catch the latest releases. When hunger strikes, residents head to the family-owned Catfish Parlour, which serves fried catfish, hush puppies, savory pinto beans and homemade bread pudding. Bush’s Fried Chicken, Wasabi, The Pit Barbeque and Café Java Yum are all close at hand. Williamsburg Village Center and Republic Square are two nearby shopping centers offering retail and dining options. Groceries can be found at the area’s H-E-B, a Texas staple.
