Historic district between Halifax and Plympton
Situated between Halifax and Plympton, Harrub’s Corner is a rural neighborhood and designated Local Historic District that combines the best of both towns. “Plympton is sleepy, it’s pastoral, it’s rolling fields and horse farms,” says Colleen Walo, a Realtor with Allison James Estates and Homes. Halifax is bustling.” This area is home to several properties that date back to the late 17th century and are now overseen and protected by the Plympton Historical Commission. Harrub’s Corner has an overall CAP Index score of 1 out of 10, which is significantly lower than the national average of 4. Just north of the neighborhood is the MBTA Halifax commuter rail station, which travels all the way up to Boston’s South Station with more than a dozen stops, including Braintree, Whitman and Quincy.
Horseback riding and days by the lake
Harrub’s Corner is home to three lakes – East and West Lakes on State Route 58 and Silver Lake on the aptly named Lake Street – that are a hub of activity during the summer. These lakes are so popular, Walo says, that the Twin Lakes residential community offers its residents an outdoor rack to store their kayaks. There are also several horse stables in the neighborhood, including the Hudson Derby Stables, which hosts equestrian events at the adjacent Fieldstone Show Park. “There are more horses than people in Plympton,” Walo says. For hiking trails, outdoor enthusiasts can head to Cato’s Ridge Preserve, which spans over 100 acres and also includes Churchill Park and O’Neil Marsh. The 70-acre Peterson Swamp Wildlife Management Area offers opportunities for hunting and birdwatching. Golfers head to the Country Club of Halifax to practice their swing on an 18-hole championship course designed by Phil Wogan – although the club is mostly membership-based, they do offer some public tee times.
Cape Cods and ranch styles on large plots of land
Potential homebuyers can find everything here, from cozy bungalows and Cape Cods to a variety of ranch-style homes, Saltbox houses and colonial-style properties. Most homes in Harrub’s Corner sit on larger plots of land that blend in seamlessly with the natural greenery and give homeowners room to breathe. Single-family homes tend to range between $350,000 and $600,000, while units at the Halifax Mobile Home Estates – a 55-plus community – often cost less than $200,000. There are also a handful of townhouses here that have sold in the $300,000s. Though Walo cautions, a property’s list price doesn’t always equal its final sale price. Because Halifax and Plymouth are both so small, housing is limited in this area, and it’s not unheard of for a property to fetch $30,000 to $40,000 over its original asking price.
Students served by Silver Lake Regional School District
Students here are zoned for the Silver Lake Regional School District, which receives an overall A-minus rating from Niche and was ranked by Niche in 2024 as the seventh-best school district in Plymouth County. Young learners who live closer to the Plympton portion of Harrub’s Corner can attend Dennett Elementary School, while those who live closer to Halifax can attend Halifax Elementary School. Both elementary schools are rated B-plus and serve grades one through six. Students in seventh and eighth grade can attend the B-rated Silver Lake Regional Middle School, which was named in the top ten best public middle schools in Plymouth County by Niche in 2024. Silver Lake Regional High School is a B-plus-rated institution that offers a Career and Technical Education department and Advanced Placement programs. “That’s a really nice high school,” Walo says.
Walmart Supercenter and local dining in Halifax
For quick convenience, Lindy’s General Store is located right along Holmes Street and offers basic groceries, medicine and alcoholic beverages. At the intersection of Route 58 and Route 106 in Halifax, locals can find a Stop & Shop grocery store and Walmart Supercenter. “Halifax has a Walmart, and not every place has a Walmart,” Walo says. “That place has everything you need.” There are also a handful of restaurants around this intersection, including Happy Dragon, a Chinese eatery; Cape Cod Café, a local pizzeria chain; and Grille 58, a family-friendly establishment serving classic American food and pub grub.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
