Named for President Andrew Jackson's former home that is now a museum that sits in the center of this suburb, Hermitage offers more than just rich history. Situated between two lakes—Old Hickory Lake to the north and Percy Priest Lake to the south—residents of Hermitage appreciate the 13-mile proximity to downtown while being away from the chaos of the city. "Hermitage is not so much a neighborhood but a small community full of affordable homes occupied by predominantly working-class families,” says Diane Journell, a Realtor at Benchmark Realty with 8 years of experience in the Mt. Juliet region.

Larger, 2,000- to 3,000-square-foot Colonial and Farmhouse Revivals, postmodern brick homes and new constructions, some with wrap-around driveways and front porch columns, range from $500,000 to around $600,000.
