Some homes are more than 100 years old, but development of the neighborhood began in earnest after World War II and continued into the 1950s. As such, Eastside's tranquil streets have a noticeable midcentury character. Sturdy brick bungalows, which are common in the Midwest, are prominent among the older housing stock. The neighborhood also has its share of ranch-style homes built after the post-war housing boom. These homes offer plenty of space, and lot sizes are generous throughout the neighborhood. Prices typically range from around $80,000 to the high $200,000s. Eastside's median sales price in the high $100,000s offers prospective homebuyers a combination of affordability and investment potential relative to surrounding neighborhoods. The median is comparable to Near Eastside, higher than Martindale-Brightwood and Arlington Woods, and lower than East Gate and Irvington.

The neighborhood is primarily served by Indianapolis Public Schools. Anna Brochhausen School 88 in the neighborhood serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade. IPS students can choose to attend any of the elementary and middle schools in their respective enrollment zones. There is no high school zoning, so older students can attend any district high school. Small sections of the neighborhood's east side are served by the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township.
Downtown Indianapolis is a quick drive from the neighborhood
It's a straight shot to downtown via I-70. The 7-mile commute can be made in under 15 minutes. IndyGo buses provide alternative transportation downtown. Interstate 70 also provides direct access to Indianapolis Airport, the center of a national transportation and logistics hub. The commute is nearly 20 miles, but it typically takes only about 20 minutes.
