West Indianapolis

Homes styles reflect historic working-class character
Home styles in West Indianapolis reflect the working-class lifestyle that defined the area throughout the last 150 years. Prospective buyers may find World War II-era tract homes with aluminum siding, two-level Victorian models, ramblers and brick bungalows all around the neighborhood, with some models built in the 19th century. House prices in the area rarely exceed the $300,000 mark, even with newer or more well-maintained models. Lots sit closely together and are connected by sidewalks, making it easy for many residents to walk to friends’ houses, school, the park or other gathering places.Indianapolis schools serve the neighborhood
Three Indianapolis Public Schools locations operate within West Indianapolis. These include Daniel Webster School and William Penn School, which both accommodate kindergarten through eighth grade. Edison School of the Arts, directly overlooking the White River, also welcomes these age groups but employs a special “Arts Integration” approach, for which all teachers undergo training at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Just north of the neighborhood is George Washington High School, which offers three specialty College and Career Academies: Advanced Manufacturing, Business and Finance, and Information Technology.White River and Eagle Creek areas provide variety of recreation
West Indianapolis' location right on the White River makes the neigbborhood a great spot for locals who love to get outside and enjoy the gentle rushing of the water. They can catch either fish or a stunning glimpse of the sunrise over the Indy skyline from the Rock Flat. Or they can take a stroll on the White River Trail, which crosses into downtown from the neighborhood. Another waterway, Eagle Creek, runs through the middle of the neighborhood from north to south, as does the 21-mile Eagle Creek Trail, which serious bikers or runners can take all the way up to Zionsville. A handful of public parks also operate in the area, including Rhodius Park, where visitors can enjoy athletic facilities and, during the summer, take a dip in the public pool.Dining scene mixes diverse cuisines, golf and movies
Restaurants in West Indianapolis stick with a locally owned, down-to-earth feel. Local favorites include the relaxed restaurant and lounge John’s Famous Stew, the cozy diner Mann’s Grille, and several Hispanic spots including the aptly named Burrito Joint and El Corcel, a Mexican and Peruvian eatery. For bigger crowds and group events, Back 9 Golf and Entertainment features a gamified driving range and a full food, beer, wine and cocktail menu. And the Tibbs Drive-In Theatre has offered the area a cinematic escape for more than 50 years, screening everything from the latest Hollywood fare to cult classics.Commuters are close to downtown and I-70
Working residents of West Indianapolis can enjoy proximity to the neighborhood’s industrial employers, as well as an easy drive into downtown just over the river. Interstate 70 runs right through the neighborhood for anyone who needs to travel beyond Indy. And the location is especially convenient for football fans, as Lucas Oil Stadium sits just on the other side of the river, within walking distance for those in the eastern part of the neighborhood.
