The neighborhood’s streets wind through forests of oak, willow and bay laurel brimming with wildlife. Many of these roads come to dead-end, but also mark the entrance to rangy trail networks that extend out into the ridges, valleys and meadows of Briones Regional Park. “It’s a beautiful community, and you’ve got great access to trails and hiking,” Williams says. At more than 6,000 acres, it’s one of the area’s largest and most popular hiking, biking and camping destinations. The area typically experiences hot, sunny summers and mild winters, and it gets much less fog than communities closer to the waterfront.

Highly rated public schools
Public schools in Lafayette are well-known for their academic excellence and have become a major draw for people with school-age kids. Students start at Springhill Elementary School and M.H. Stanley Middle School, both of which earn A ratings from Niche. The last four years can be spent at A-plus-rated Acalanes High School, a top-tier Bay Area school that’s been recognized as a California Distinguished School. More than 95 percent of graduates continue to college, according to the school’s website. “Acalanes High and Springhill Elementary are right down the street.
