Neighborhood in Lehigh Acres, Florida
Lee County 33936, 33974
Eclectic mix of homes built around canals
As the neighborhood continues to transition from rural to suburban, residents enjoy a South Florida setting in which a grid of truncated streets is built around Lehigh Acre’s ever-present canals. "A lot of people like that they can throw a fishing line in their backyard," says Sarah Garrett, a Realtor with Alliance Realty Group, who has been serving Lehigh Acres since 2006. "Many canals are narrow, but some are wide enough to fit canoes. People also just find the movement of water to be peaceful." While there are homes built from the 1970s to the the early 2000s, much of the housing stock here is new. However, this is not a cookie-cutter neighborhood, as there is an eclectic mix of new-builds that range from Coastal Transitional to New Traditional to contemporary. Many of the older options are ranch-style homes. Prices range from the high $200,000s to the mid-$500,000s, and higher-priced homes are typically larger, set on the water and feature amenities such as pools. Lehigh Acres is a census-designated place, not a city, therefore, prospective homeowners should be aware that many homes are serviced by septic tanks and well water. Given its inland location, the neighborhood is not at risk of flooding. However, wind damage can be a major risk during hurricane season. All levels of schooling are available in the neighborhood
Students can attend kindergarten through 12th grade at Lee County public schools without leaving the neighborhood. Mirror Lakes Elementary is rated B-minus by Niche. Lehigh Acres Middle and East Lee County High are rated C-plus. East Lee County High is a Cambridge International school that offers academies in subjects as varied as agriculture, firefighting and criminal justice. Veterans Park Academy for the Arts is a public K-8 alternative also located in the neighborhood. Lee County does offer the opportunity to submit school-choice applications for students entering middle and high school and those who are either new to a district or have recently moved within one.Veterans Park is the center of activity
Veterans Park, which features a skate park, splash pad and lake, is a sprawling green space that is the center of neighborhood activity. The park is home to Lehigh Youth Soccer, and cricket is among an array of organized sports competitions that take place on its athletic fields. “There are always activities going on at the park,” says Anabel Alvarez, owner of Hamilton-Franklin Realty, who specializes in Lehigh Acres real estate. “People go there for yoga classes on the weekends, birthday parties, you name it.” Golfers can hone their game on the 18-hole layout at nearby Majestic Golf Club. Ibis Landing Golf & Country Club in neighboring Alabama offers memberships and public tee times. Lazy Springs Recreation Park has a rural waterfront setting, and in addition to fishing and kayaking, visitors can ride ATVs through mud bogs, traverse trails on dirt bikes and try out zip lines. The park’s annual Go Topless Day features off-road escapades by Jeep enthusiasts. Boaters and anglers can find plenty of opportunities on the Caloosahatchee River and the adjacent waters of the Intracoastal Waterway that separate Fort Myers and Cape Coral.State Road 82 provides access to the heart of Fort Myers
Bus stops dot Homestead Road and Lee Boulevard. One of the nearby stops is Lehigh Regional Medical Center, located about a mile away. State Road 82 on the neighborhood’s south side leads directly to Downtown Fort Myers and its waterfront. Southwest Florida International Airport is about 17 miles away.Publix, Walmart among convenient shopping options
Shopping centers, grocery stores and big-box retailers are conveniently located in and around the neighborhood. Publix anchors a handful of retail options at Homestead Plaza. Walmart Supercenter provides one-stop shopping along the nearby Lee Boulevard commercial corridor. Homestead Bar is a popular hangout at Lehigh Town Center Mall. Joe’s Cafe is a highlight of the surrounding dining options along Homestead Road.
