Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital and the Los Angeles International Airport are both approximately 5 miles and 13 miles to the east, respectively.

Florence has many recreation centers in its vicinity, including Green Meadows Recreation Center, South Park Recreation Center and Algin Sutton Recreation Center. From swimming pools to sports facilities such as basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields and fitness centers, these recreational venues provide residents with abundant exercise opportunities. Locals may also take walks at South Los Angeles Wetlands Park and take their children to Franklin D. Roosevelt Park to play. Spanning 160 acres of green space and recreational venues, Exposition Park is about 3 miles up north and is home to the Los Angeles Swimming Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Prospective students may begin primary schooling at Florence Avenue Elementary School or Parmelee Avenue Elementary and Dual Language School, both of which have a B-minus Niche rating. Parmelee Elementary offers science classes in both Spanish and English for students from first grade to fifth grade. Thomas Alva Edison Middle School scores a C-plus, while John C. Fremont High School receives a B-minus and offers academic programs in the fields of medical science, global media, law, and social justice.
Attractions in Exposition Park and Hollywood
On weekends, families may visit one of Exposition Park’s various museums, including the California Science Center, the California African American Museum, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles Rose Garden.
