Historic Revival-style homes from early 1900s
Historic Windsor Square is a beautiful community of turn-of-the-century Revival-style homes in Central Los Angeles. “This is one of the chicest areas in LA, one of the city’s original posh neighborhoods,” says agent Lori Harris of Keller Williams Realty, a native Angelino. Power lines were laid underground to impress the neighborhood’s earliest residents, who had to meet quality home standards by agreeing to spend at least $12,000 to build a home — almost $400,000 today. Designated a historic preservation overlay zone, 100-year-old homes maintain their character despite decades of renovation. “The homes are stunning, the neighborhood is stunning,” says Compass Realtor Vanessa Quinn, who has been selling since 2017. “This place is like a little secret. You’ve got tour buses in Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills, but there’s none of that here.”
Some areas could pass for Beverly Hills
Windsor Square is a mix of well-appointed single-family homes and historic mansions from the 1910s and ‘20s. The neighborhood’s peaceful streets could be the backdrop of a Hollywood production. “You don’t see new homes because it’s a historic overlay zone. Old homes have been preserved, and they all have different historical styles and beautiful gardens, and they’re very well kept,” Quinn says. “Everything is very traditional. There are Spanish, Tudor and Colonial influences, Craftsmans; it’s very old school for LA.” South Windsor Boulevard could pass for Beverly Hills to the untrained eye thanks to block after block of towering palm trees over streets lined by majestic prewar estates. Homes in Windsor Square are priced between $1.5 million and $7 million — though most sit between $2 million and $3 million.

Larchmont Village is a shopping and dining hub
The heavy concentration of over 50 shops and restaurants along North Larchmont Boulevard is known as Larchmont Village. There is a diverse selection of retail offerings, like Chevalier's Books, The Scent Room and the Village Heights gift shop. Multiple bakeries, ice cream shops and juiceries sit along this commercial stretch. "You can buy all your wine and cheese and specialty items from stores in the neighborhood," Quinn says. "The Larchmont wine and cheese store has fresh-made deli sandwiches and a line out the door. They also have a sommelier." Groundwork Coffee Co. is a local hotspot serving signature blends, tea and light fare in a relaxed atmosphere. There is outdoor seating and plenty of natural light because of a garage door-type front window. Holy Grail Donuts is a popular local offering — their handcrafted, plant-based donuts are made with taro. "Great White is an amazing Aussie restaurant. It's a total scene, and the food is great," Quinn says. For stocking up on groceries, there's a Pavilions at the corner of Melrose and Vine or, on Wednesdays and Sundays, there's the Larchmont Village Farmers Market.

Wilshire Country Club: A prestigious haven for golf and leisure in Windsor Square.
Blocks from the Wilshire Country Club and LA Tennis Club
Robert Burns Park on Beverly Boulevard is the community's only park. Kids appreciate the playground with a climbing wall and the nearby swing sets. "You've got the golf course right there at the Wilshire Country Club and the LA Tennis Club across the street. They both attract a Hollywood crowd," Quinn says. A few blocks north, Hollywood Forever Cemetery is a landmark destination and the final resting place of luminaries like Jayne Mansfield, Burt Reynolds and Johnny Ramone. The cemetery maintains an active calendar and is brimming with activities, particularly during summer. In June 2024, a Johnny Ramone tribute and "Pulp Fiction" 30th-anniversary event included guests like John Travolta, Fred Armisen and Billy Idol.
High school with dual immersion Korean
Los Angeles Unified is an above-average urban public school district with a B-plus from Niche. Kids can attend Van Ness Avenue Elementary, a walkable community school in neighboring Larchmont graded B-minus by Niche. John Burroughs Middle School gets a B grade. Fairfax High School is in the top 15% of California high schools for athletes, according to Niche, which grades it an A-minus. FHS has a dual immersion program in Korean, including a class on Korean drumming aimed at teaching students the instrumental instruction of Korean music.

Downtown Los Angeles is 5 miles away
Windsor Square sits between Beverly Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard, about 5 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard are a few blocks north in neighboring Larchmont. Most major thoroughfares are lined with bus routes operated by the city. “Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards aren’t very trafficky. And they are putting a subway station on Wilshire, so it will be even more accessible,” Quinn says. “To get to the 101, it’s probably about eight minutes or so, and to get to the 10, it’s more like 15 minutes.” Local streets are sleepy and see little-to-no-through traffic thanks to low-density living. Los Angeles International Airport is only 20 miles away, a drive that can take two hours, depending on the day and time. The famous Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is 4 miles west.
