Westmorland is an established suburb close to Downtown Madison
Westmorland is one of Madison's original suburbs, and its homes and lifestyle reflect its mid-1900s roots. Plenty of vintage houses sit along grid-patterned streets with plenty of shade, three golf courses are a few blocks away and a large park forms the center of the community. The Southwest Commuter Path connects Westmorland to Downtown Madison, while Mineral Point Road and Tokay Boulevard lead to major shopping centers.

Homes built from the '40s to the '50s mix with newer condos
Though the neighborhood was initially laid out in the 1920s, its homes were mostly built over the next 30 years. “That was developed in the ‘40s and ‘50s, and the houses are similar to Sunset Village in that they’re Cape Cods, a few Colonials, some Tudors,” says Kathy Smith Epping, a Realtor with Restaino & Associates. Single-family homes below 1,750 square feet have sold from the high $300,000s to the low $700,000s, while larger properties go from the low $500,000s to the low $800,000s. Townhouses and 2000s-built condos sell from the low $300,000s to mid-$700,000s. Westmorland’s median of around $576,000 is significantly above the medians of downtown and the rest of the city, with renovated homes featuring the highest prices.

Arboretum hiking, public golfing and small parks are close to home
Westmorland offers plenty of outdoor activities, both in the neighborhood and around it. “The anchor of that neighborhood is Westmorland Park,” Smith Epping says. “There’s a lot of young kids, and the park is really a draw.” The community’s namesake park includes tennis and basketball courts, a playground and— during the winter—a volunteer-run ice skating rink. Westmorland is also a few blocks away from a UW—Madison Arboretum trailhead, which lets hikers explore more than 1,200 acres of preserve wetlands and woodlands, look out for diverse bird species and come across the occasional deer and wild turkey. Golfers can cross Glenway Street to play at The Glen Golf Park, a 9-hole course that was recently refurbished and reopened to the public. Odana Hills Golf Course and its 18-hole course are also open to the public, and it converts its greens into cross-country skiing trails during the winter.
The Glen Golf Park is one of the many spots for golf near Westmorland.

Midvale Boulevard has plenty of dining and retail options
Midvale Boulevard serves as Westmorland’s main retail drag, and the neighborhood’s Midvale Plaza Shopping Center sits right alongside it. Visitors can:
Order a thin-crust pie at Luigi’s Pizza
Graba hot drink at EVP Coffee
Treat themselves to more than 100 ice cream flavors at the family-run Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co., a local fixture for more than 60 years
The Madison Public Library’s Sequoya branch is also in the shopping center, putting it within walkable distance of the local elementary school. Midvale Boulevard also connects shoppers to Nakoma Plaza to the south and the Hilldale Shopping Center to the north, giving residents dozens more retail and restaurant options. Hilldale's grocery options include Metcalfe's Market, Target and Whole Foods. At Westmorland’s northeast corner, the Village Bar serves as the local sports bar, and it’s known for its “Brick Burger,” made with Wisconsin’s signature brick cheese.
Residents of Westmorland have access to Colectivo Coffee on Monroe Street.

Westmorland Park hosts annual events, from concerts to winter skating
The Westmorland Neighborhood Association hosts several events throughout the year, many of them raising funds for Westmorland Park improvements. Fourth of July sees the association put on a parade and a party that features a cakewalk, beer tent and live music. During the winter, the park is open for sledding, skating and ice hockey at the park’s rink. “The other thing that neighborhood does that’s really unique is a summer concert series,” Smith Epping says. “Probably three or four times during the summer, they have a band come in and play, they sell beer and soda, and you can bring your lawn chairs, sit and listen to the music and dance. Last year, they had a drone light display during the Summer Nights event.”
Westmorland Park is at the center of the neighborhood, and it has acres of space to explore.
Residents of Westmorland can stay active during all months of the year.
