Poplar Pines' access to the energy of Memphis and calm of Germantown
Sitting on the border of Memphis and its suburb of Germantown, Poplar Pines has access to the offerings of both cities. The neighborhood is home to one of Memphis’ busiest commercial districts, with shopping centers and restaurants along Poplar Avenue. But quieter residential areas also populate the neighborhood, including small gated communities within the Germantown limits. Residents enjoy both the calm of the suburbs and the city's energy in Poplar Pines.

Shopping and dining along Poplar Avenue
A bustling commercial district along Poplar Avenue anchors Poplar Pines. Shopping centers line the corridor, including the Poplar Court development with a couple of shops and fast food spots like Subway. Across the street is the Regalia Shopping Center, which offers the high-end clothing store Oak Hall, plus popular eateries such as Bog and Barley. “It’s the most beautiful restaurant, maybe, in any city out there. I don’t know why they decided to put it here, but they did,” says Todd Adams, a Realtor with Keller Williams and third-generation Memphian. “The owner is from Ireland. He bought this bar and brought it over to the states, and had Irish carpenters build it back up.” Groceries can be found at the nearby Kroger, while other essentials are available at Target in the nearby Ridgeway Trace shopping center.

School zoning split between Memphis and Germantown
As Poplar Pines is split between the cities of Memphis and Germantown, students can be zoned to either school district. The Germantown Municipal School District offers a school choice program, but students are zoned to Riverdale Elementary for kindergarten through eighth grade, followed by Houston High. Each receives an A grade from Niche. However, more of the neighborhood is in the Memphis Shelby County Schools zone. The district also offers a school choice program, but most students head to C-plus-rated Balmoral-Ridgeway Elementary, then Ridgeway Middle and Ridgeway High, each receiving a C grade. Ridgeway High offers dual enrollment courses in English and history. The all-boys Memphis University School and all-girls Hutchison School — both rated an A-plus — are each directly across the street from the neighborhood.
