Wide range of housing in Red Mountain Ranch
The enclosed asphalt-paved streets in Red Mountain Ranch are lined with sidewalks and sprawling acacia trees. Drivers will also see plenty of cacti, palm trees and scenic views of the distant, tan Superstition Mountains. The area is filled mostly with single-family homes, but there are a few early 21st-century townhome communities close to the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club. “We do see some winter visitors who have rentals out there, especially in the townhomes,” Whalen says. These pueblo-styled properties feature community pools and range between about $350,000 and $500,000, with over $400 in monthly HOA fees. This covers utilities, yard maintenance and other association fees. Most homes here were built in the 1980s and ‘90s with a few 2020 builds sprinkled near the northeastern corner. HOA fees can roughly range between $100 and $400. Spanish-influenced ranch-style and new traditional homes are scattered around the neighborhood and feature reddish tan terracotta roofs and stucco exteriors. Many have stone privacy fences surrounding rock-landscaped backyards with shaded patios. Some even have their own in-ground pools. Prices range between $375,000 and $700,000. Mediterranean-influenced estates with more square footage and over half-acre lots are dispersed near the neighborhood perimeter and closer to the Country Club. These properties feature up to five bedrooms, and several sit in gated areas like Sky Mountain Estates and Red Rock Subdivision. Prices typically range from $750,000 to $1.6 million depending on size and location.
Hitting the green at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
The semi-private Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, which opened in 1986, is the focal point of the neighborhood. Whalen says residents enjoy booking tee times on the 18-hole golf course, which has grassy hills and was designed by the renowned Pete Dye. Members of the club have access to an Olympic-sized lap pool, a fully equipped fitness center and pickleball courts. Some homeowners are within walking distance of Red Mountain Ranch Community Park which has a small playground and the Red Mountain Ranch Northwest Park, small pocket space with connections to nearby dirt trails. Folks can also visit Red Rock Park for a game of pickleball or a chance to relax in its open greenspace. For hiking opportunities, Usery Mountain Regional Park has over a dozen trails that meander through giant saguaro cacti and rock formations.Appreciating the arts at Red Mountain High
The neighborhood is zoned for the Mesa Public Schools school district. Arizona is also a “school choice” state, so out-of-district families can apply for schools during open enrollment. Kids can start at Red Mountain Ranch Elementary, which covers kindergarten through sixth grade and continue to Shepherd Junior High which offers fourth through eighth. Both schools earn a B-plus from Niche. The A-rated Red Mountain High is known for its Performing Arts programs featuring skills in orchestra and guitar.Regular board meetings and parties in Red Rock Park
The Red Mountain Ranch Owners Association is fairly active in the community. Residents can attend regular Board Meetings via zoom, and leaders send out newsletters frequently. The neighborhood hosts community garage sales, and around November, people gather for Party in the Park at Red Rock Park. Families can enjoy a petting zoo, local food trucks and face painting. Red Mountain Ranch Country Club is a popular spot for hosting weddings and corporate events, and it holds various tennis and pickleball tournaments throughout the year.Convenience to Loop 202
Power Road is a major thoroughfare connected to the eastern border of Red Mountain Ranch and runs throughout Mesa. Arizona State Route 202—also referred to as Loop 202—is a few blocks south and leads to Downtown Mesa about 14 miles southwest. Whalen says driving is the preferred form of transportation, but folks can bike along East Redmont Drive and East Thomas Road. Dignity Health AZ General Hospital’s Emergency Room is about 4 miles south via Power Road, and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is 18 miles south.Shopping and dining off of Power Road
Ridgeview Plaza shopping mall is 2 miles south of the neighborhood. Shoppers can pick up groceries at Bashas’ then visit Red White Brew for classic burgers and appetizers during happy hour. Across from Power Road, The Village at Las Sendas shopping mall houses Hava Java, a small coffee shop with a funky design and the family-owned Pacino’s Italian, which serves hefty plates of Bronx-inspired pizza and pasta. A few miles further south, locals can shop big box stores and retailers like Target, Burlington and Ulta Beauty in the Red Mountain Gateway mall. There are also a few local and regional businesses Bike Masters selling rows of accessories and apparel.Staying out of the heat and neighbors watching out for each other
Due to its desert climate, extreme heat is a part of living in Red Mountain Ranch. Maricopa County advises locals to stay indoors with air conditioning as often as possible and take frequent cool showers. Some homeowners may also be eligible for the Maricopa County Emergency Home Repair Program which will swiftly repair any broken AC units. Folks can also drive to several cooling centers in the region including The Salvation Army about 14 miles west. The community also has an overall CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4. Neighbors notify one another of any thefts in the area, and the HOA newsletter sometimes gives tips for homeowners whenever they leave for vacation like installing motion sensor lights outside.
