What the area's colonials, bungalows and Tudor-style homes can cost

The area is filled with single-family homes from the early 1900s, including colonial homes, bungalows and Tudor-style houses. Prices can range from the lower $100,000s to the mid-$400,000s. “My first couple homes were in the neighborhood, and they were big,” says Ineye Bobmanuel, an agent with Keller Williams Realty Integrity Lakes. “They were about $180,000. For a big house with a garage, you’re not going to find that [price] anywhere else.” There are also a few duplexes that often run from the mid-$200,000s to the lower $400,000s. The neighborhood’s homes are generally more expensive than in surrounding communities like Jordan and Folwell, but less expensive than in Victory.

The northern community sticks together

Cleveland is one of nine north Minneapolis neighborhoods that make up the Camden region. The quiet residential area has wide concrete streets, and people often park their cars along the curb. Homes along North Xerxes Avenue have views of Victory Memorial Parkway’s trees and open space. No matter which neighborhood they live in, people on the north side of the city tend to stick together, as seen at Tooties on Lowry, one of the few bars and restaurants in Cleveland. “It’s a longtime establishment, and all the neighbors love it,” says Constance Vork, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Integrity Lakes who lives in nearby Willard-Hay. “We know half the people in there, and they know us. It’s like ‘Cheers.’”

Easy access to downtown Minneapolis

Cleveland is about 6 miles from downtown, where national companies like Target and Sleep Number have their headquarters. People can drive there in 15 to 20 minutes. They can also commute by riding Metro Transit buses, which make stops along Lowry Avenue North and North Penn Avenue. The ride takes about 30 minutes.

Residents can use bike trails, sports courts and a boxing gym

Just outside the neighborhood’s borders is Victory Memorial Parkway, a section of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway that is popular for jogging and biking. It connects with Theodore Wirth Regional Park, one of the city’s largest parks that attracts visitors for its golf course, fishing pier, beach and hiking trails. Cleveland Park is a smaller space with a playground, a basketball court and a softball field. A few blocks away, Northside Boxing Club offers free boxing classes for young athletes and gives them a place to do schoolwork and other activities.

Top restaurants are minutes away in Robbinsdale

Cleveland is mostly a residential neighborhood, but it’s minutes away from Robbinsdale, where people can try some of the top restaurants in the region. Options include:

  • Travail Kitchen and Amusements, a multi-course restaurant with tableside cooking
  • Pig Ate My Pizza, which has traditional and signature pizzas
  • Athens Cafe, a casual spot for Greek dishes
  • Marna’s Eatery, known for its Costa Rican food and craft cocktails
  • The Birdhouse Eat + Drink, which offers sandwiches and other comfort food

Students are served by a highly rated district

Students are zoned for the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District, but the state’s open enrollment policy allows students to attend any school outside the district that has space. Citywide magnet schools, like Franklin STEAM Middle School, use a lottery to determine enrollment. Private schools like the nearby, highly rated RiverTree School are also an option.

Not too many options nearby, a few small beer-and-wine bars with some food.

Once again, we don't have to many businesses in the neighborhood. If anything, there would be a better chance finding a decent paying job working as a taxi driver or a city bus driver. Sadly, maybe even as a babysitter. There are many kids in the area.

There is a fire station down the road, a high police presence in the area, but roadways are crap and public works does not seem to care.

Most people maintain their property pretty well, but there are some renters that don't really care (section 8 housing)
