Elliot Park is a residential neighborhood next to downtown

The Elliot Park neighborhood puts residents close to the action. The Minneapolis community is more residential than nearby downtown neighborhoods, with people often staying in condos and apartments, but many of the city's best restaurants and event venues are a short walk away. For longer commutes, Metro Transit provides several ways to get around the city.

What historic and modern condos often cost here

Homeowners make up about 15% of residents. Most of them live in condos that range from historic brick buildings to a more contemporary look. Prices can run from the mid-$100,000s for a standard one-bedroom space to the lower $700,000s for a more deluxe unit. HOA fees stretch from $300 to more than $1,200 per month. There are also a few townhomes and triplexes that usually sell between the upper $200,000s and the lower $700,000s. The area’s prices are significantly lower than in Downtown East, on par with Downtown West and higher than in Ventura Village. Elliot Park's renters often live in studio and one-bedroom apartments. Some are from the early to mid-1900s, while others are more modern.

Life in the urban community is convenient, but noisy

The community has a vibrant, urban look, and many streets are wide and one-way to keep traffic moving. “It’s practically downtown,” says Christopher Wasilensky, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Integrity Lakes. “It’s not, technically, but it really is a part of it [in feeling].” While some smaller trees line the roads, buildings dominate the skyline. Sidewalks help people get where they need to go. Hennepin County Medical Center is in the neighborhood, and the sirens of emergency vehicles going to and from the hospital are often noisy.

Residents can walk to popular eateries

There are a few popular restaurants in and around Elliot Park. Residents can get to places like:

  • Boludo, which has pizza and Argentinian-style empanadas
  • Brit's Pub, which serves traditional English fare
  • Band Box Diner, an old-school diner with classic American eats
  • Hen House Eatery, an all-day breakfast spot
  • Manny’s Steakhouse, which sources meat from its own herds of cattle
Wasilensky says football fans will appreciate the sports bars and taprooms around U.S. Bank Stadium, like Day Block Brewing Company.

There are nearby parks for sports and for exploring

The neighborhood’s namesake park has sports courts, a skate area, a playground and a wading pool. Franklin Steele Square is a smaller space with a basketball court, a splash pad and a community garden. A few blocks away, Gateway Off-Leash Dog Park gives pets space to get out their energy. Nearby, The Commons often hosts workout classes and community events. You can also walk about a mile to get to Mill Ruins Park, where there’s an old flour mill to explore. The park’s trails run along the Mississippi River.

Commuting to the business district is a breeze

Elliot Park is roughly a mile from downtown’s business district, where U.S. Bank, Target and other major companies have offices. Many people choose to walk this commute, even in the winter, thanks to the Minneapolis Skyway System of indoor bridges. There are skyway entrances along South 6th Street and another near U.S. Bank Stadium. The walk downtown takes about 20 minutes. You can also bike there in around 6 minutes. Metro Transit buses make stops throughout the neighborhood, and there are light rail stations close to the stadium and to Government Plaza. Riding either option downtown takes 15 to 20 minutes. The light rail can also make the trip to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in nearly a half-hour.

It's close to football, concerts and a live theater

U.S. Bank Stadium is just across South 6th Street from the neighborhood. It’s the home of the Minnesota Vikings football team, and also hosts wrestling events and concerts by superstars like Bruno Mars. The area around the stadium can get crowded on Vikings game days. A few blocks from the stadium is The Armory, a concert venue where Minneapolis legend Prince shot his “1999” music video. “The main floor is all standing room,” Wasilensky says. Less than a mile away is the Guthrie Theater, which has three stages for both classic and modern productions.

Great diverse neighborhood near downtown and several major highways. Nice parks. Still fairly affordable for downtown. Has a few walking-distance restaurants, but it would be nice to have more.
