Where Elliot Park gets its name
Elliot Park, from which the neighborhood got its name, is a popular destination for skating, soccer, basketball and swimming in the public pool. Residents can join a soccer league or enjoy daily walks in the green space. The park features a large, state-of-the-art skate park designed by the same people behind the skate park at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Franklin Steele Park is also in the area, offering many recreational activities, including a splash pad, playground and picnic areas. Originally named Calhoun Park, the park received its new name in 2018 to honor Franklin Steele, a prominent African American businessman and civic leader in the area. Just outside Elliot Park is The Commons, a 4.2-acre park that sits in front of U.S. Bank Stadium. The green space frequently holds movie nights and live music for the community.

Neighborhood gems in Elliot Park
Locals can start their mornings at Segue Coffee, a cozy independent coffee that runs a non-profit community pantry. The neighborhood is also home to local coffee franchise Dunn Brothers Coffee. When hunger strikes, one neighborhood gem stands out as a favorite. The red and white old-school diner Band Box has been a beloved greasy spoon since its opening in 1939. So beloved, in fact, that when the diner had to close during the pandemic in 2020, neighbors and patrons raised over $26,000 to reopen the doors in 2023. It's no wonder the spot is so popular. Shoestring fries and burgers, buttermilk pancakes drenched in syrup, English muffins dripping in butter—the food at Band Box Diner is no joke. When residents need groceries, they head to Elliot Park Grocery or Trader Joe's just outside the neighborhood. Between Mill City Museum and the Guthrie sits the Mill City Farmers Market, home to over 40 farmers, artisan food vendors and artists.

Live music and theater
Residents benefit from living minutes from The Armory. Once home to the Minneapolis Lakers, this 1930s building was where Prince filmed the music video for "1999." Today, it continues to function as a central concert venue and event center for the community. Also nearby is Guthrie Theater, considered the crown jewel of the Twin Cities' theatrical community. Locals can catch performances year-round at the popular venue. History buffs have quick access to Mill City Museum, an attraction entirely devoted to the area's history of flour milling.
