Kingfield

Eclectic eateries, cozy cafes and vintage shops
A long list of international restaurants, unique boutiques and vintage clothing stores are clustered throughout the neighborhood. French pastry lovers head to Patisserie 46, where decadent baked goods are made with its philosophy in mind: slow down and connect. “Every time I go in, I see people that I know,” Webb says. Kingfield is also home to a Minneapolis favorite, Five Watt Coffee, taking coffee up a notch with a mocktail spin. A longtime neighborhood staple, Victor's 1959 Café, transports diners to Cuba. “Victor’s is a little hole in the wall. It has its own vibe and the food is absolutely delicious,” Webb says. Tabletop hobbyists step into Tower Games to freshen up their decks or try something new. Tandem Vintage and 316 Vintage are just two options for those who love to thrift, and music collectors can spend an afternoon thumbing through the crates at The Record Spot. Grocery shopping is done at the Friend Store of Seward Community Co-op, just across Interstate 35.Foursquare and bungalow styles with historic elements
Single-family homes make up a majority of the neighborhood, resting on peaceful blocks lined with sidewalks and mature trees stretching their limbs over the street below. Many builds here predate 1920 and come in a range of styles and forms such as Prairie, Arts and Crafts, American Foursquare, bungalow, and the classic Minneapolis one-and-a-half-story. “Most homes have historic elements, like lots of woodwork and oak or maple floors, that people choose to live in an old home for. There’s always a project or something to do, but you do it because you love the charm and character,” says Webb, who’s been selling homes in Minneapolis for more than a decade. Prices range from $230,000 to more than $630,000 with buyers paying $375,000 on average.Exercise and reflection at Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Park
Tennis matches happen all year long in the InnerCity Tennis dome at Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, the neighborhood’s eastside destination for athletic fields, playgrounds and a wading pool. Residents can also pause and reflect under the shade of trees at The Freedom Form #2, a steel sculpture by artist Daniel LaRue Johnson that honors King and is accompanied by powerful quotes from the civil rights icon. Lyndale Farmstead Park offers similar amenities, plus an off-leash dog park. For waterfront walks, canoeing, boating and more, residents can visit Lake Harriet, known for its summer concerts at the band shell. An award-winning farmers market and a love for Halloween
Neighborhood events cultivate a community where people know each other. In a nod to the Kingfield’s agricultural roots, every Sunday morning from mid-May through October, locals peruse the offerings from 40 vendors at the award-winning Kingfield Farmers Market. In June, residents look forward to PorchFest when local musicians perform from their porches and yards, but Webb says Halloween is the big thing here. “Several blocks really do it up. During 2020, there was a block that started a Halloween parade, and that has grown every year since and now has food trucks. It’s something everyone knows about,” Webb says.A highly-ranking high school
Children can attend Clara Barton Elementary School, with a C grade from Niche, before moving on to Justice Page Middle School with a B grade. Older students can attend Washburn High School, which receives an A-minus and is ranked the 26th best public high school in Minnesota.A short commute to downtown Minneapolis
Kingfield is very walkable, and being primarily residential, drivers don’t normally have trouble finding on-street parking. Metro Transit services two bus routes through the neighborhood with stops lining Nicolett Avenue. Downtown Minneapolis is about a 4-mile drive up Interstate 35 and Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is about 6 miles away.
